Scrumpy Jack (Cider)

Kingfisher-not sure how good it really is out of context, but when you are in the bowels of India, it sure tastes good! ;)

The Complete Joy is VERY outdated at this point, but a fun read and full of Charlie's passion.

How to Brew, but John Palmer, is a more recent book that has been updated, although even that has a lot of old info that is considered no longer relevant since homebrewing has grown by leaps and bounds.

Check out Homebrewtalk.com, it is an amazing source of info and you will learn everything you need to know if you hang around there and ask the right questions.

Homebrewing is pretty much on par with my job as far as the amount of time I spend on it (much to my wife's chagrin ;) ). I'm currently helping plan a local beer fest with a homebrew component/competition, and am involved in an art gallery presentation involving the art of brewing and tasting small batch, craft beer.

1. PBR, Genny Cream
2. PBR or Budweiser (in the US flag can!)
3. Stella Artois

My friend's mom told me I won't attract ANY women with a full set of teeth if I keep drinking PBR when I go out. Oh....darn ;)

Do you prefer them without teeth (or removable ones)???

Smithwick's, Guinness, and Stella Artois are excellent.

A true unfiltered hefeweizen with lemon is divine.

Last time I was in Seattle I ate here (http://www.fairmont.com/seattle/GuestServices/Restaurants/Shuckers.htm) a couple of times.

They had/have an ale called "Manny's Pale Ale". I've had my share of ale's all over the country but Manny's was the best, ever.

Let me know if you ever make it to southern Michigan - there are 2 or 3 pales here that are phenomenal - also let me know if you make it to Cleveland; the brewmaster at Fathead's (formerly of the Rocky River Brewing Company) has God-given talent that is not to be missed if in the area.

I thought the NB Ranger was lacking in hops for an IPA, but then again I think Caldera IPA (http://www.calderabrewing.com/index.asp) has a good amount of hops.

Wolf Hills Brewing Co. (http://wolfhillsbrewing.com/main.php/main.php/) in Abingdon, VA has a great IPA (and double IPA) that will more than fulfill any hops addiction. The brewmaster is a former local brewgrouper who went through the ABG Craft Brewer Apprenticeship at Harpoon.

Okay Gentlemen,

What the hell is it with Guinness? Mr. Furious, Dozer, anyone???:p

Am seriously curious why it is the best /slash QP beer of choice?

Does it make everything rise to the occassion faster, or is it just tastier?

Inquiring mind here that would like to know.:)

Ha no teeth are a must! Just some poorly keyboarded sarcasm. I should have used the pink font.

Holly, It’s because Guinness is good for you!

It’s an acquired taste. I graduated SFQC in Apr 87 and two weeks later I was on a plane for England to stage for my first trip with my team. My first Guinness was at a little pub outside of RAF Sculthorpe on that trip with a few guys from the team and a couple of SAS blokes. From that point on, regular brew just won’t do.

OK a Mr. F treat (you will agree after trying it): take one pint Guinness and pour slowly into a glass, then take one shot of Captain Morgan’s spiced rum and pour that in. It will take any bitter edge off, gives it almost a hint of caramel flavor, and it will hit you twice as fast. It’s called an “Irish Pirate”. Make sure you use the normal Captain Morgan’s spiced rum and not their black rum, or it becomes an Irish Butt Pirate and tastes like ass…don’t do that.

Guinness is more than just beer.

At the end of a long day, there's nothing quite like getting into some comfortable clothes, trading the boots for flip-flops, and sitting on the back porch watching the kids play.
Not using a frozen mug would be heresy.

Echos, it's a fad, the beer tastes like crap. "Bread in a bottle" served to the poor in instead of lunch for centurys.

Most who drink it, can't taste anything anyway due to destroyed taste buds. :munchin :D

LoL

If you're only drinking Guinness out of a bottle, then you are missing the real experience. Proper pour of a draught pint is art :D

And here I thought you were once a 10th Grouper!!! I think Guinness is very tasty. It has to come from the homeland. When I was in Germany, I would visit many Irish Pubs. You could tell the true Guinness based on the pour, the taste, smell and so on. A good pint takes a while to come, while others are drinking their swill, us Guinness drinkers would wait. Hell, I think I will get me one now. I like mine to be in the proper glass...which I have, and let it sit for about 3-5 minutes before I take the first drink..ahhh...goes down smooth.

Longrange, you know I Love Ya, and still sing your TRUNKSLAMMER praises, but I will have to disagree with you on this one.

Sir,

I have heard that Guinness is best from the tap, and am looking forward to Mr. Furious's suggestion of trying it with rum! YUM.

Am hoping to get a full-on experience, as weak and limp flavors are not my thing.;):D

I have found yet again another nugget of wisdom here at PS.com.

On vacation for a couple of weeks, so alcohol consumption need not be restricted to the evening.
Been drinking 2 or 3 Guinness "instead of lunch."

It's been wonderful!
Thanks for the suggestion! :D

Try a real German hefeweizen dunkle sometime. That's like eating half a loaf of bread. The volks in Bavaria have some pretty strong traditions on liquid lunches. They justify it because it contains hops, malt, and barley. :D

The recent beer thread reminded me to post this. I had a bottle of Grand Teton Brewing's Gose last month while camping in the Teton's. It is slightly salty due to the use of water from Salt Creek outside Yellowstone, and sour because of the added lactobacillus. Very good.
