Well it has been coming down since last night....for those of you out in the real snow-zones this isn't much, but for a bunch of coastal flatlanders this is going to be interesting. It's been coming down steady and wind gusts are up to 30+ kts thus far. Forecast calls for this to continue on into early Sunday A.M.
Thankful right now that it started on a Friday night and I can spend the day looking out the back while it comes down. Knowing that I don't have to go anywhere.....
With the Christmas tree lit and music playing in the background it all fits very nicely.
Peace,
R10
Beautiful view, sounds like a lovely day.
As long as I don't have to go anywhere, I love when it snows...
I been waiting for the call of duty to run out and play in this fine stuff.
But really, It's cool sitting here playing radio, watching the news, listening to the EOCs, might have to head out later to help out a retirement home near by.
11 " here as of noon, but that's 11 inches of hell for a lot of SUV drivers, that can not drive.. Yeh you know it, its always the other guy!!!!
AL
PS the low staled , looks like we could get 24" before this is called. COOLLL!!!
:D
Don't forget to send pics to Copenhagen.

My family is stuck in the minivan trying to get through Alexandria to NJ today.
I am holding down the house. As long as they make it there safely, I will be glad to have done this part of the job.
Hope 95 in MD is better than it is in the DC area.
Don't forget to send pics to Copenhagen.
The DC airports are essentially closed. Andrews had to be plowed for Obama to land. Global warming indeed.

Wish them luck for me. Sometimes it's just best to pull off at a Hotel with a bar and an in ground pool.
But I think the weather is lifting off to the N/E. Major roads should be cleaned pretty quick.

I wonder how his support team is getting home? Oh wait...they're not.

Trust me, they're there and there and there. He will have enough support team to get around. Like him or not, the great corps of AF men and women will get the President where he needs to be.

I suspect that it will be the Marines getting him home from Andrews.

Rgr that sir.
It's all encompassing minus the Coasties. They are busy busting waves and chasing deer at PAX River. :D

But it's Saturday...;)
Hardly any of the civilian support guys travel on AF1 but actually go via other means including COMAIR. With Dulles & BWI closed, my buddies are stuck in Denmark & Germany. I feel SSSSOOOO sorry for them too. :D

Not any better up in MD. Storm is hitting hardest right up the western shore of the Bay and the 93 corridor.
Hope the family found a place to R.O.N....or is moving carefully. We are up to 18+ and coming down steady. The Blizzard warning lifted at 1730 local time. Slow and easy.
A good place to do a virtual assessment is here (http://www.i95travelinfo.net/)

Not so good here in the Shen. Valley. Wife off to UVA Med Center this AM ,pushing snow well over the bumper of my F-150. Dug out a path for my girls to get to the back yard, even my Huskey waited patiently. Blew a hydraulic line to the front end loader on my Kubota as I tried dig out the driveway...really made no difference...have yet to see a snow plow.
I am 6'2" and have snow to mid thigh. There is fog freezing on Afton Mtn, I-64, and my wife just called to see if it was safe to drive home in MY F-150...she did not like the answer.
So.....I've got nearly 4' of snow, freezing fog, a pissed wife, and a broken plow; life could be worse....nobody is shooting at me. I have shelter, food, power, a wife in a safe place, four dogs that celebrate when I come back from the mailbox, and PS.com.

I'm with you....:)
My biggest worry is clearing out the wall of ice/snow at the end of the driveway when (and if) the county runs the front end loader down the cul-de-sac.
My wife brought home a few bottles of Nurnberger Markt Gluhwein on Friday so we are making a dent in those and watching the snow pile up.
Got a runway shoveled for the dog and room enought to launch the SUV down the driveway.

It's coming down pretty good in my part of NJ, about an inch or so an hour. It is supposed to get worse overnight, shoveling in the morning will be fun.

I should like to point out that the great state of Colorado had nothing to do with this weather event.
While we normally "refine" eastbound storms here in the Rockies, this one is the result of warm Suthren rain meeting cold Canadian air. My sympathies.
Hope things thaw out for you there.
It'll be April before they do here.:p
it took 11 hrs to get from NC o NJ on Sunday, normally a 7 1/2 hr trip. Got home to about 24" on the ground and the dog begging me to clear her a toilet area....atleast she was glad I got home!

Son's GF and her freind got in from Orlando just as the airport closed down. Himself ferried 4 guys back to Bragg, two of whom had lovely young ladies riding on thier laps...sitting, I mean sitting. Geez, you all have dirty minds..:D
He drove them all back in the morning, before leaving for Fla with his harem.
Lovely stuff, snow. I saw video of it all over the DC Mall.It was quite pretty. I am thrilled to be where I am. I do not miss it at all.
TR your family make it in safe?
Merry Christmas all!!

I got a call from my brother on Saturday about noon. His wife's nephew was flying in from Camp Pendleton and got stuck in Philadelphia airport. No more flights out, and all the flights for Sunday overbooked. Oh yeah, and all his luggage lost. The nephew is a young Recon Marine who just made it through BRC.
I guess it surprised my brother that I immediately volunteered to drive down to the airport in the snow and pick the kid up. There's no way I would let some young Marine spend the night in PHL with no luggage on his way home for Christmas if I can do something about it, and I'm sure most people on this board would do the same.
I was very impressed by what they are teaching these young Marines. He clearly has a solid chain of command that is doing the right things. He had a lot of questions about the Army way of doing things. Turns out that he is considering crossing over and trying for SF later on after he has got some solid time in the Recon battalions. I think he will be a credit to either service.
This storm has affected the entire air travel network. My wife flew back from San Francisco last night and was over two hours late due to re-routing of a/c, availability of air crews, and switching larger a/c to the Eastern routes to help clear the backlog of passengers, etc. Didn't bother her much - she was upgraded to 1st Class (free dinner and wine) - and didn't bother me, either, as I was just glad she made it safely. ;)

Did not get plowed out until yesterday pm. Blew a hydraulic line on my front end loader. Had to pay to get my driveway plowed so I could get a replacement line:mad:.

23 hours and 30 minutes to go from Bragg to Northern Jersey. Just under 600 miles, normally a 10-11 hour drive, including rest stops.
The first four hours to Richmond were normal. It took over seven hours to go from Quantico to Baltimore. They got off for a quick stop at the Andrews AFB exit and got stuck behind a Nissan Altima that lacked the ground clearance to get down the ramp. Took about an hour to shovel/dig/push them out. The Jersey Turnpike was down to one lane plowed, no exits cleared. Dead stopped, if anyone had an accident, lost control, or stopped. They were running behind the storm, after the delay around DC, so most of the snow had fallen, but not yet cleared. DC, Baltimore, Philly, Newark, they got to see the worst of it. The kids say that they have seen enough snow for a while.
Return trip tomorrow, hopefully things will be better coming home.

Should not be too bad heading back down. We made the drive from MD to FL yesterday and it went fairly smoothly (16 hours with doggy breaks). Early A.M. had some packed-snow and icey areas (thank you All-Wheel-Drive), but we cleared any significant road mess just south of Richmond. The greatest challenge were the areas where the far right or left lanes were not completely cleared and some people took longer than others to come to that realization.
Bad whether? Where? Just kidding.
Hope everyone came out of the storm ok. Sure glad I’m not there. In any case, be safe everyone and a Happy Christmas to every member/moderator and QP of ps.com and specially to our brave men and women in uniform and in harm’s way. Felicidades y prospero año nuevo!

I feel your pain brother.
Started out for Albany, NY Sat morning. I was rolling along quite nicely til I hit Fredricksburg, VA. Took 6 hours from there to Baltimore as well... Trip went from 14 hours to 22 hours quickly.
Finally cleared my driveway of three feet of snow here in Fort Meade.
Never had to shovel snow before...send me back to Hawaii!
