I recall my first interaction with a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Being a Yankee by birth I had not laid eyes on one until arriving at Fort Benning. Of course they weren't for eatin'....they were just fer lookin' at.:D
So as the article states....If Krispy Kreme can block a sewer pipe, what is it doing inside of you????
Krispy Kreme Blamed For Clogging Sewer
Friday, May 29, 2009
John Patti and Associated Press
Fairfax County officials are blaming Krispy Kreme doughnuts for clogging more than just arteries.
The county says the company has damaged its sewer system by dumping yeast and grease from its Lorton plant. Officials filed a lawsuit this month after the company refused to pay a $1.9 million bill for repairs to the system.
The lawsuit says the damage was caused by "excessive quantities of highly corrosive wastes, doughnut grease and other pollutants." The suit says clogged pipes resulted in raw sewage leaks that shut down the southern Fairfax sewer system.
The county says its workers once ran a closed-circuit camera inside a pipe to show the grease deposits, but the camera got stuck in the goop.
Krispy Kreme says the charges are unfounded.

LOL! Being from the mid-west, I never had heard of, much less tasted one, til I moved to CA. But, I must say that the memory of my first KK's was at Dodger's Stadium, in '99! It was a round glazed, hard on the outside, juicy on the inside, and bursted with flavor once bitten! Indeed, very delicious to taste!:lifter

Though now in bad decline (something has changed in the recipe), few things beat Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts.
I did question the company's expansion plans, especially after seeing a Krispy Kreme up the street from the Cafe du Monde in NOLA in spring 2004.

Ahhh, music to my ears..."Beignets" at this Cafe' are someting to be sought after, IMHO....Just sitting at the historical venue, with coffee can bring on a flash flood of good times!:lifter

When they ran the story on the ABC affiliate a few years back, I forced myself not to remember the name of the hamburger stand out here that uses glazed Krispy Kremes as buns on their bacon cheese burgers.
I think Dodger Stadium should sell a Dodger Dog that has Krispy Kremes stacked around it, like donuts on a baseball bat.

Honestly, we all threw caution to the wind and just enjoyed them there Kremes!
Good times, IIRC,:lifter

O' Lord, Im reading this and I can hear my arteries starting to clog.
Since my (as they call it now) Cardio "event" a few years back Ive done away with all such things. This is NOT to say I dont lust after it on a daily basis though.

This Dodger Dog idea finds its roots in the Pizza Pup sold at Fedco back in the 1970s: a slice of thin crust pizza wrapped around a hot dog and then baked.
Then there's the Okie Dog. Two hot dogs, chili, cheese, and pastrami wrapped in a flour tortilla.

Did you get your training with the North Vietnamese, at the Soviet Gulags or just something you picked up at Gitmo.
That was pure torture! You have any idea the difficulty involved in eating "healthy" foods.

As Maxwell Smart would say "Sorry about that, Chief.":D
FWIW, I had to give up the Okie dogs about twenty years ago. I hardly ever eat Krispy Kremes or hot dogs. I no longer baste steaks with melted butter. I rarely eat rice anymore :( and when I do it is brown.
I gave up fries and chips for 2009 and I am grumpy almost always for making that choice.
I'd go here for coffee and doughnuts - I'd never notice what they tasted like...and I wouldn't care.

They are and I Love them......
Ditto that..
Stopped by yesterday two warm glazed and a pint bottle of white whole milk.
In college we would go out drinking and end up at the KK store watching them pop out of the deep grease, then roll thru the glaze. Waittress would take them right off the line for us. Fresh, soft, warm. with the glaze barely dry.

Yep, did that two days back instead of taking the easy way to home depot my car, all by itself, drove me straight to KK and my mouth said, "2 glazed" while my hand reached for that whole milk. I have no idea how that happened, I was not a willing participant..then my hand forced my mouth to partake of both those soft, warm, glazed sugar and dough confections. I tell you it was terrible awful... resistance was futile, the hand was mighter than the brain screaming no, no... I could see my hips growing with each bite.
Made me think about Krystals... man I miss them too... nothing up here like that.. and no local restaurant can make sliders like they can.
Out of all of this.. what I really miss is being able to stop by a 7-11 walkin, reach in the cooler for a single beer. I hate having to go to the booze shop to get a single.. its always way the heck out of the say and there is a 7-11 on nearly every corner.. I miss being in the South sometimes.. most of the time..

OMG, T. There is this bakery in Downers Grove, can't remember the name at this moment, that makes THE most awesomest everrrrrrr Punchkies (never knew how to spell it). We have a vendor that brings us a baker's dozen once per year, on Punchkie Day, they are filled with all kinds of goodness. (cherry, blueberry, apricot, pineapple, lemon creme etc etc) I get lightheaded thinking about them. :D

Gracias. Correction made.
Forget the blue pencil, if only for a moment.
Where are the pictures of the paczkis?
What kinds of fillings would fall under the category of "other"? (How popular is the prune filling?:( )
How sweet are they compared to Krispy Kreme glazed dougnuts?

went to KK once after an all-nighter in the lab. The ""Hot Doughnuts Now" sign was on. So hot and fresh, it was almost liquid in mouth and it only took one gulp. Before we knew it, we downed 6-7 doughnuts in less than 4 min. Never again I said, but we all know what happened next...:D

Since reading about them for the first time on this thread, I've been using the Google Fu for all its worth to find a Polish bakery.
I am also berating an old classmate. Her family is from the old country for not telling me about this wonderful goodness.
For goodness sake, her mentor would patiently ask graduate students to consider the possibility that the pivot of European history was in Eastern Europe (e.g. Poland) and not Western Europe (e.g. France) and he never thought to bring in a box of paczkis!
In our house we call them Kolache (Czech version) theyre filled with whatever floats your boat. Most common are Cherry, Apricot, Raisins and Cottage Cheese and Sigba's Lekvar.
Hey Sigba. This is SW Pa. how many Polish, Russian and Czech bakeries you think there are here?
I can still get copies of the Carpathian Cookbook if you want to make your own Eastern European baked goods.
