View Full Version : Off to Landstuhl
I'm headed out to Landstuhl early next week to spend some quality parental unit time with my 18E. He's still recovering from the wounds he received while on deployment to a sandy place, and will be undergoing another just before month end, hence the trip. I was actually born in Landstuhl, (AF dad), so this will be a sort of homecoming for me as well. In between surgeries, he's been helping as a liason with other SF wounded at LRMC.
A special note of thanks to TS, LR and BIll Harsey for their notes of support and concern. It's going to be a bit of a recovery time, but he is hoping to be gainfully assigned to a team again in as short a time as possible.
I don't often post, but read almost daily. Really enjoy the banter and friendships that I see here.
Give him a "Get healed soon" wish from all of us here.
My best to your son, I hope he heals fast and strong. :lifter:lifter
And my thanks to you for being there.. :D:D
Cheers

Enjoy your time in Germany and take care of your boy. He will enjoy Mom around even if he does not say so. Take him and his team out for a cold one and you will get some funny stories about him.
Good luck

Just a few observations from my European adventure:
The SOCOM Care Coalition LNO's ROCK! I spent a few evenings with them and with some of the SF guys there who were ambulatory. The LNO's live day and night to take care of their guys, in what ever way they can, even to the point of taking visiting Mom's along to dinner. Doesn't matter what unit they are from, all of them are brothers and it shows. I consider the two current LNO's to be good friends now, AND my 18E has now been assigned to the same duty while he is recovering from his injuries.
The staff at LRMC ROCK! I was shown care and concern by doctors and staff alike. I was kept informed during the 5 1/2 hours of my 18E's surgery, and even afterwards. Nurses were friendly, caring and very efficient.
Soldiers Angels volunteers ROCK! I spent an afternoon with them getting supplies for one of the outpatient barracks, and then visiting the various wards to supply treats for the staff. Everyone there knows MaryAnn by sight, and welcomed us with open arms. The fact that we were loaded down with chocolate probably helped too.
My 18E ROCKS! I have to be a mom and brag now. The morning after his surgery, I went back to his room at 0800 to visit him one last time before I headed stateside. He was already up, dressed and ready to go. I asked him why the rush, and he stated that he had guys being flown to WR that morning and he wanted to be out in the hall way when they left. He stood there and spoke to each one as they were rolled down the hallway to Air Evac. You can bet the tears were welling up in my eyes and the tissue was being used.
Thanks to all of you for your posts of care and concern. I'm sure I'll be heading over to Germany again, a lot more than previously, as often as time and budget will allow.

That's truly awesome, glad to hear your son is okay. Really glad to hear it was a good experience (meaning the care that everyone took for you and your son). I wish that all mom's could have that experience, if the need arose.
