View Full Version : What Irritates SF?
Greetings from a humble civilian, but I am asking a serious question? What irritates You, as SF Soldiers?
I am curious, so as to have it out in the open?
Just a liitle ?

Officer's who don't let us do our job.
Death by Power Point.
Needless paperwork.
Senior NCO's who don't take care of the soldiers, and instead play the political games....and of course

Thank You Max_Tab, for sharing that.
The first three, I can only imagine...
The last one, well, gramatical errors happen, to us all. ;)

Thanks for sharing QRQ 30. A "Hat" is probably beyond my comprehension...though I have been called "too nice"? :(
Self-worship exists in a few fields I am familiar with. Like Music. When A Musician chooses to believe that they are God's Gift...
it is annoying to me. The really good ones, you know...are humble.
That is JMHO.

Echoes and All: By "Hat" I meant being called a "Green Beret".
One other thing that really irritates me is the Wannabe Hunters. There are wannabes in the world who are truly a disgrace to SF and are public enough that they need to be exposed for the phonies they are. I concede that.
However, it seems that if you even mention that you were in Special Foorces you are immediately subjected to the dumbass secret handshakes, questions etc. I proved myself 40 years ago and refuse to continue to prove who, or what I am. Ask me stupid questions and expect equally outlandish answers. I'm a little old for it now but there was a timewhen I would ask a wannabe hunter how he would like to go back and explain how he just had his ass kucked by a leg "spoon". I have done so more than once.

My appologies Sir. I was in no way attempting to ask a "dumbass" question. And at the very least, I have irritated you, which was not my intention.
Please disreguard this thread. One day I will wake to realize what true SF is, until then, I may step on my d**k once in a while.(if I had one)

Echoes: I wasn't refering to you at all. You have not upset me in any way.
I was referring to the members of SPecial Forces who have to challenge anyone they don't know. There were just too many people in SF to know all. Besides, the little wannabes have better stories than I.
I merely mentioned you because I thought you may not have I was referring to being called a "Green Beret" when I said "Hat".
You are cool.

Folks: Apparently I wasn't clear yesterday in a comment about Irritants, Please allow me to explain.
1. It is one thing to be placed upon a pedestal above others. It is another thing entirely to place yourself upon that pedestal.
2.A scenario: I am downtown and lets say I am getting a haircut. The barber asks what I do and I say I'm Retired. He then asks if I was in the service and I say Yes. He then asks what branch and I say Army. (Notice I tend to be non-commital). He then asks what I did in the Army and I answer that I was in Special Forces.
Now the BS starts. He starts the third degree ansking about the "Secret Handshake", who was in the 4th SFGA, how many PLFs I carried in my kit bag, etc. This type of "wanabe hunting" really irritates me. IMHO questions like this are totally out of line and an insult to me. If I were making vast claims of heroism it would be different. Yet, I see queries almost daily on another forum asking "Does anyone know??
A simple "How do you do" and "Glad to meet yoe", would be more appropriate.

Thank You!
I get the same crap just because I am proud of my 2 years with 5/19 and list it where required. I've been the subject of several witch hunts by poser hunters who turned out to have no prior or current service whatsoever.
I agree, If I was making wild claims and such it would be a different matter.
I think that irritates every prior service person.
Sorry bout the hijack. Carry on.

I never really minded cleaning up a little, we lived there and I figured it was our share. I don't think SF should have to do more than one one month support cycle per battalion per year though.
Edit to add - and only one company-sized element should have to do it.

You mentioned quitters twice, and I agree with that.
We just finished Post Clean-up, Spring Week. All E-8s and below were on line in PT uniform with trash bags, lawn mowers, rakes, and weed-eaters. I shit you not.
Pine cones are not removed from undernerath trees, but must be re-distributed properly in order to create a random appearance.
There is insufficient bandwidth to post my list here, either volume. Suffice it to say that my lovely bride says that I hate everyone. That is untrue, I am ambivalent about most, tolerate some, really like a very few, but keep my List handy and add to it frequently.

I don't understand being offended by being called a Green Beret. It was one of your own who conditioned our society to do so with a song. I met two when I was in the service and neither seemed bothered by it.
You would after the 150th time! I used to get reallllly annoyed by being confused with 'Special Services' - especially by fellow military types (can you say 'Marines'?).
I don't understand being offended by being called a Green Beret.
Chip,
Thank you for your service sir.
I think you might be confused, as the inital point of this thread was an off-shoot, (way back in '04,) of what SF Men like.
This was just a simple question of what SF Men do not like, i.e, what irritates SF Men, etc...And in fact, was a very curious topic...:munchin

The coventional side.
People who are capable but don't stand for the National Anthem.
People who don't take their hats off and put their hand over their heart during the national anthem.
People who talk and fool around while the National Anthem is playing.
People who don't respect the US Flag.
People who don't stand, take their hats of and put their hand over their heart as the flag passes by.
Parading and Saluting the Flag
When carried in a procession, the flag should be to the right of the marchers. When other flags are carried, the flag of the United States may be centered in front of the others or carried to their right. When the flag passes in a procession, or when it is hoisted or lowered, all should face the flag and salute.
The Salute
To salute, all persons come to attention. Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute. Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart. Members of organizations in formation salute upon command of the person in charge.
The Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem
The pledge of allegiance should be rendered by standing at attention, facing the flag, and saluting.
When the national anthem is played or sung, citizens should stand at attention and salute at the first note and hold the salute through the last note. The salute is directed to the flag, if displayed, otherwise to the music.

Stay safe.
Soldiers both Enlisted and Officers that report to higher what they think higher wants to hear rather than what they need to hear.
Soldiers that are worried more about their careers than their troops and the mission at hand. Don't get me started on this one
Several Sr. NCO's (E7/E8) from a variety of units have displayed such caution in making a decision that they have the "deer in the head light" look in their eyes when asked for guidance regarding very simple questions by junior service members. When has, "getting permission" been required for taking care of the obvious?
Now, consider the challenge in having to work directly with such RA units with this type of methodology, when a young Special Forces soldier has to coordinated unit movements or any other administrative task.
When said SF soldier is allowed to operate within certain guidelines in order to accomplish the mission, RA units only see arrogance, while we are simply demonstrating a perscribed amount of "freedom". Young RA troopers, see the difference and aspire to it, while their Sr NCO's, (our suposed peers), hate us for undermining their leadership.
I'd take the field leadership decision making abilities of a young SGT, 82nd Abn Div., Germany, 1945, over many SGMs today.
Same could be said of a 2LT, 10th Mountain, Italy, 1945, over many O6 of today's Corp staffs.

You guys have admitted some less than stellar people slip through the cracks.
Trolls irritate me.
People who think they are funny when others do not annoy me as well.
Getting close to time to take out the trash here.

1 - You are not SF so why are you commenting.
2 - The person who started the thread is the only one who should as she is not SF but asked the question.

Things that Irritates me is non SF people commenting on SF questions.....
I have been wanting to comment for 2 days and I thought you would have figured it out yesterday but I guess you are not capable so refer to rule 1 and 3....
What? NOBODY thinks I'm funny? Well, good luck with the site.

My apologies.

Can't say you weren't warned..... Hope you have a deep bunker with overhead cover capable of sustaining a JDAM strike..

Guess he did not like what he posted after some attention. He erased a bunch..... Hate to say it is still there to bring back if needed. Never post/write something unless you are prepared to defend it has been my mantra for years.;)
