Today we Finns celebrate our 90th Independence Day.

Today we also remember and honor those men and women who paid for that independence with blood, in bitter fighting in the Winter, Continuation and Lapland wars.

A Special Forces legend, a Captain in the Finnish Army LAURI ALLAN TÖRNI / U. S. Special Forces Major LARRY A. THORNE 1919-1965. Fought in three Armies (Finnish, German and U.S.).

He was awarded the Mannerheim Cross by Finnland, the Iron Cross by Germany and a Silver Star by the U.S..

Major Thorne was MIA in LAOS in 1965. His remains were recovered in 2003

The Finns defense of their country in WWII is one of the most inspiring stories of the 20th century. Happy Independence Day

What they said! Many happy returns. The Russians have underestimated the determination of the Finns to remain a free country several times - to the everlasting sorrow of their widows and orphans. Sadly the Kremlin never seems to hear the lamentations of the serfs.
