Attended class 501-07 and got selected for 18E and Spanish. I leave here Thursday and will continue to train and prep for the mighty "Q". Don't have any dates yet, but I'm glad to have one foot in the door. Thanks for all the advice, all those long nights on this site helped a lot. :)

Don't slack off on p.t. Worse thing you can do is assume the physical stuff is over with. You will get crushed in phase II if you're not in shape, not to mention your peer evaluations will go in the toilet if you can't perform to the same standard as your teammates. Food for thought.

Selected only means that you still have numerous opportunities to fail. Keep your eyes and ears open, mouth shut, and focus on each 25m target as it presents itself... then possibly in a couple of years, you'll really get selected.

Also just got back with H8Leech...he is one strong mofo! Got selected, and I already got my Xray's. Bone scan in a couple days, I definitly got a good fracture from the trek. Thank you guys for feeding us good intel on success, Daver still says it best with DO YOUR BEST. It really is the best advice. I am already studying the language material...God help me with Thai!!

Bottom line...14 day course is NO JOKE. One thing I noticed though is that there is so little down time less people voluntary withdrawed, because they were so busy the didn't have time to doubt themselves! On to airborne and SUT, see you guys in the future.

I didn't know they were still assigning Thai as a language. I thought they got rid of Thai along with German. Are they issuing German also?

I also got selected in class 02-08. We probably had the worst weather in North Carolina history. Just about everyone had chilblain for a week after the freezing rain and snow during land nav but it was fun overall.

Amen.

And students injured when ice laden trees fell on them. The same storm knocked out the power at CMK so that there was no heat, hot water, or DFAC. "Here are your MRE's, men. Take care and try to stay warm."

Last summer, the temp at the Camp topped 108 three days in a row.

You were only there for 14 days, and have not seen bad weather yet. Wait till Phase II, when you are there long enough to live in the tents and appreciate it.

We ordered that weather for your selection process, it assists in separating the men from the boys.

TR,

I remember that summer very well. I was in Pineland during that time, and I think they said it was 4 to 5 days of 105+ degrees. Needless to say, I drank a lot of water...until I could remember what water tasted like.

I was there in FEB 1980; I thought the ice storms were ordered up to enhance the morning ruck marches. Any one remember getting caught in the rear with a 60 in that mess? Only had to bang the gates once... We also had more than a foot of snow during patrolling; we ended up humping back to CMC. They were able to get us back to Bragg three days later; we hit the weapons pool around 1800 and were released after 2400. The first day of phase two they could not keep us awake during IMC, sent us back to get some sleep. The calendar says that was a long time ago, some stuff still seems like yesterday.

Congrads to those selected, I am mentoring a young Soldier who should get there this summer, this site is pure gold.

Not being SF but having my fair share of poop for weather, it gets far worse. If and when you make it to the end of your training, you'll get to experience other fun places like the mountains of Afghanistan (also has some nice hot weather throughout the theater of ops) and our most recent vacation hot spot Iraq.

Yes it's cold, and it'll definately be hot. But there is always something worse. I'm humble and know I've got it good. Hmmm words have been posted before......goes a little like "Embrace the suck!!!"

Congrats to all for making it from that 50m target to the next..

After all is said and done I can honestly say your book changed the course of my life, so again thanks.

WOW! Thanks for that tremendous compliment. Really appreciate the feedback.

Obviously put a lot of time and effort into writing it. Assumed some risk (financial and political) by publishing it. But feedback like that - and the success we've had supporting the Special Operations Warrior Foundation - makes it definitely worth it.

We should count these up...eleven more and we can claim "credit" for putting another ODA on the battlefield! :lifter
Thanks again!

My knife - he still has to earn his.

This may be the last time I chauffeur him around. He is buying my old truck which is already decorated up for him and then he will be able to chauffeur himself around.

Selected. Class 02-10, 18D and Indonesian. Roger that!

I have to agree with Defender1984, your book was a great coach. Thank you for the time and effort you put into that book. For what it's worth, it greatly improved my changes during selection, just as the books' purpose says! The three things i'd recommend to anyone going to selection: "Get Selected", a canteen straw, and crocs! So count me as number 2 on that team, and now 10 more for an ODA!

Agreed, but make it 3 canteen straws, I had one, lost it to the draw monster in the middle of the night during land nav during Ida. I would also add a pair of shin guards, would have made kicking every down tree in the woods much less painful :)

Selected class 02-10 Arabic, 5th group. I would second the crocs to give your feet a rest in the field. Also 2 quart straws are clutch. Hydrating while lightening your ruck=brilliant.
Thanks to TR, TS, and warrior-mentor for all the posts. They helped a ton. I felt like I was well prepared going in and all I had to do was take it day by day event by event. Thanks.

I just got selected last month and got 18B and Urdu. I was a 19D a long time ago but reclassed to 68P (Xray tech) two years ago. *Worst decision ever*

I am pumped about 18B and I am scratching my head trying to learn Urdu via rosetta stone.

Any advice on either will help. Also I hear that I will most likely go to 3rd so any one from there please chime in as well.

Ken,

I have completed the weapons course in the recent past and my only advice is that if you can learn the fundamentals of the cycles of operation, you will be lightyears ahead of your classmates. Also, always keep in the back of your mind that the way the Bravo Commitee sets up and runs ranges is EXACTLY what you must be able to do when training your indig.

Go with your strengths, get thru the "Q" course, let SF command decide what's in it's best interests. If I were the sitting CSM, I would send you down range with a team needing an 18E ASAP, and put another soldier in a language class seat that would have been filled by you.

If you can show real language proficiency, why would you want a team to wait for you?

Getting to a team should be your only goal, 25M at a time.

Don't discount any language, all are needed, you'll do fine. If you're good, you'll serve on three to four teams in your career. If really good, you'll be a team dad, if not, that will be self evident.

18D and Arabic - I hope you enjoy a challenge and are prepared to embrace the suck of study, study, and more study when your friends want to go out. Get your mind wrapped around the concept and keep your focus on your end goal. The opportunity to party will come after you've completed your training and have orders to Group; wait for it.

For you 18D's - good luck and I'll pass on some words to us from MSG Bob Scully when he was our NCOIC at the lab:

"Grades don't mean s**t. You're either good enough or you aren't. I don't want any 80% medic working on me and I won't pass any 80% medic on to join a team. They're better than that and they deserve better than that. And if you can't decide whether or not you're good enough to be a team medic, don't worry about it - we're here to help you make the right decision."

Being fresh out of the JSOMTC and the course I can tell you this quote, verbatim or paraphrased, still rings in the halls and classrooms.

Good Luck to everyone, especially the D's.

Class 10-11. RN 135. 18D and Korean.

Very excited for this opportunity. I will not let it go to waste. Selection was the biggest learning experience of my life, especially as an X-ray. Thanks to all the QPs on this site, as well as my own TACs. Now back to the 25m target.
