Another Rose Bowl for us. Will be interesting to see who we get. Ohio State? Georgia? I'd prefer LSU, but I think they're going to the Sugar Bowl. :munchin

My bet is OSU and LSU in the "championship" game. I think you will draw Georgia RL, and that will be a very good football game! OU vs USC would work as well.

Let me just throw this out there. I can make a case for LSU and Virginia Tech to go to the National Championship Game (and I don't even like VT...so it's not just team bias here).

Look at it this way: VT is 11-2. Not only did it win it's conference's division, it won it's conference championship as well. It's two losses this year came to Boston College (which it avenged in the ACC Title Game on Saturday) and LSU in Week 1.

OSU and Georgia shouldn't get the nod simply because they sat on their keisters this weekend (UGA because they couldn't even win their division let alone their conference and OSU because they didn't play in the Big 10 Championship game because there IS no Big 10 Championship game...granted, not their fault, but also shouldn't count FOR them in this case either).

OU has beaten Missouri (twice) and Texas (the only two that are in the rankings right now). Meanwhile, VT beat Clemson, Virginia and BC (one more ranked team than OU has beaten). Again, not OU's fault that they didn't play more ranked teams, but that's just the way it was this season.

So, since VT won their conference championship game (unlike UGA), actually played in more games than OSU, and beat more ranked teams than OU (the other conference champion in the mix besides LSU), VT should get a rematch with LSU for all the marbles.

Tooting the Delaware horn: In the semi finals of a sport settled on the field!

Imagine a playoff involving all these Division 1 teams:
1. Ohio State (50) 11-1 1,578
2. LSU (11) 11-2 1,519
3. Oklahoma (1) 11-2 1,423
4. Georgia (1) 10-2 1,421
5. Virginia Tech (1) 11-2 1,380
6. USC 10-2 1,346
Hell even a SIX game two week playoff would generate more cash than the school admins would know what to do with! Think they might sell out the horseshoe and make a mint of tv revenue for OSU vs USC? LSU vs VT rematch in Baton Rouge? Play the championship on New Year's day in the bowl of your choice (rotate yearly). You can leave the bowl system intact and eliminate this ridiculous four games played each day leading up to the "championship" game. Christ is it that hard?????

What the hell happened to OU last night? They looked like a team that didn't belong. Sorry, Holly. :boohoo

I completely misread how WV would approach this game. I thought they'd be too distracted by R-Rod's departure to show up. I was sure wrong about that.

Hawaii won't play another mainland bowl game for 3 years. They were out of their element and looked like a high school team. Time to go back to the Hula Bowl....

USC played like a team possessed. I like Pete Carroll and think he's one of the best coaches out there.

Michigan played out big for Carr, though it was too little too late. Even after beating Florida, that doesn't take away the fact they lost to App. State.

Air Force showed that they're one-dimensional after they lost their quarterback. Look for him to be working a weather station at the south pole after he graduates.

Missouri proved they belong in the top 10. They beat a good Arkansas team that couldn't pull it together and rested on their heels after beating LSU last month.

I'm intrigued by the Orange Bowl tonight. Good thing I have a 40 inch TV. That's the only way Kansas' coach will fit the screen. :D

"This win was for Lloyd, and for Bo, and for the Big Ten, and even for Tom Brady. This win was for smashmouth, for 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust, for the "laser, rocket arm," and even for big uglies. Michigan is moving on now, to a shiny new future with a smiling new coach. But before he left -- before Lloyd Carr disappeared into the balmy Florida night -- he gave all Michigan fans something to remember.

And something to dearly miss. "

Note that I'm not brave enough to post picks.

Mr. Harsey (and all other Duck fans on forum):

As a disappointed USF student who just returned from the over 3000 mile road trip to El Paso and back, I must congratulate you on Oregon’s Sun Bowl victory. I genuinely thought that my Bulls were going to win prior to the game. However, the Ducks were just so much bigger and stronger, especially on both lines. It was a genuine butt-kicking.

Having seen USF play and beat both West Virginia and Auburn live and in-person, I have to tell you this: Hadn’t Dixon gone down mid-season, I really think that Oregon could have been playing in the National Championship game. They are that good.

I was very impressed.

It was a joyous occasion at the homestead to watch the "prediction map" on sportscenter that was all red (for OU) except WV and then see WVU roll over OU. I'm not going to rub it in... Maybe OU should call Georgia and they can compare notes...

Unfortunately, VT is trying to lose to KU.

Sir, I give them a TON of credit. Without Dixon I thought they were too shorthanded. I also figured USF would have played tougher. The Ducks played a heck of a game, and I may even attend a game or two next season since I am in Oregon 1 week a month.

Good point, Georgia did win their bowl game (and last year's), so that makes them 2 out of 3, as opposed to 0 for 4...

SEC brings the HEAT! It was beautiful to watch an over rated media bandwagon team take a real ass whipping... and take it SEC style. We just need more than LSU in the SEC West to represesent in their bowl games (ie: Arkansas).
The same thing with HAWAII. They were so psyched coming to the Sugar Bowl because they were undefeated! They were undefeated because of their schedule strength(as in most other over rated teams). They did their polynesian dances coming in and did the Dawg walk going home... Georgia completely owned them. GEORGIA is going to be BIG next year. KNOWSHAWN (sp) is a stud! The even better news is that they are all so young... it will be a great run!

I agree... It would have been a GREAT game if LSU played UGA. The only draw back is that the country wouldnt have been able to see the SEC flex its muscles :p

I really think that more than anything else, LSU out coached Ohio State. The variations of their spread formations really confused Ohio State’s secondary, which because of LSU's spread formations had to play Nickel and Dime coverage’s most of the time, which entails using your third and forth cornerback. Therein lays the secret of the spread. Spread them out and work your passing game in the space provided by the defense.

I did not get to see Georgia or USC play that much this year, but unless they have one hell of a defensive line that can consistently put pressure on the QB or very quick LB that can blitz, they would not be able to stop LSU offense.

That’s why a playoff system is needed. As I understand it the only Conference that is objecting a playoff system is the PAC 10. Does anyone know why?

Just my 02.

Illinoise sucks, that's all I'm going to say.

USC gets to play the Buckeyes in 08 and 09... so you'll see the number 1 team of the weak conference beating the piss out of USC next season.

USC has that. But they clearly didn't earn a title shot this year even though they were capable. It should have been Georgia in the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl picked Ill. because they're trying to maintain the classic PAC10/Big10 matchup. I hope they get over the 'tradition' of the thing so we get better matchups, but I won't hold my breath.
