View Full Version : Is the Left Wing Destroying the Dems Before the '08 Election?
The Reaper

The incidence of loud and strident anti-war and anti-military events, the attempt to try key members of the Administration in kangaroo courts, the calls for impeachment, and proposed left-wing legislation lead me to believe that the Left Wing of the Democratic party was emboldened by the 2006 elections and now believes that the majority of the American people are with them, or will go along with their lunacy.
Does anyone else think that if the party leadership gives these whackos a little more rope for the next year or so, and the Republicans get their heads out of their asses, that the moderate Dems elected in the last election might find themselves out on the street, and the Dems suffer a backlash from the Independent and moderate voters in 2008?
I realize that the Republicans are at a disadvantage in defending Senate seats (again).
The anti-war wing is already causing certain Democratic candidates significant problems and negative exposure. They may rip one another (or their party) to shreds before 2008.
It just occurs to me that it is better to be strong in the presidential election years rather than in the mid-terms, and if you screw up, better do do it after the presidential elections rather than just before.
Thoughts, or am I just thinking wishfully?

Sir,
I hope your right, but I fear we are heading down a long lonely cold path in the years to come. I see the news stories, listen to my liberal family members, read “main line” news stories and see Americans more interested in “feelings” over facts.
I see short-sighted gains being touted over long-term goals.
I see American politicians unwilling to bear the mantle of leadership and true statesmanship.
I see party politics over national interests.
I see protests burning soldier’s effigies in America.
I see Major City Mayors calling for impeachment.
I see American’s more concerned over Anna Nicole Smith than what is really going on in the world.
I see apathy and ignorance
Unless the Conservatives find a better choice in candidates (genuine, electable, and connectable), I fear for my nation.

Perhaps not, after all, the dems promised to accomplish 6 things in the first one hundred hours, and they've found out the hard way that getting things through the house is fairly easy, but getting through the senate and to the POTUS desk are certainly another. To date they a score of "ZERO" for their first one hundred hours. These include the minimum wage increase, changes in Medicare and Medicaid, immigration, etc.
Moving America Forward.Com has established a strong following of moderate Americans that support the war, or at least the troops, and that are conciously aware of the dems antics in the house and senate. One of the mistakes liberals have alway's made is assuming that the majority of Americans are merely grass eaters with out any political grasp as to their antics. Case in point is this weeks headlines for the firing of 8 Judicial judges and the out cry for Gonzalez to be released from duty. They forget that we remember the Clintons fired most of their judicial judges also for political reasons, but left Michael Chertof to serve in this administration. Where was the outcry for an investigation then ?
I believe your correct that the tide will turn in two years, as I already believe that the public and the politicians have already grown somewhat cold to the new democratic leadership. Former President Clinton is due here today in Cincinnati and surprisingly he is not being met with much fan fare or appreciation. One year ago he had the city turning cart wheels for him, today he is struggling to fill the room to raise money for his wife. There was actually talk this morning on the local radio that he may cancil his appearance due to weak seat sales for the benefit.
I hope your right.

I think you correctly identify a weakness that can be exploited, but we need to look at our own internal problems first IMO.

What was that old saying from Lincoln... "a house divided against itself cannot stand" or something close to that. I think we are seeing that with the Democrats.
Neither party can win the oval office without the support of independents and some "moderates" from the other party. There are too many swing states where the vote is almost always close to 50-50. The same however cannot be said of Congressional elections. During the last election cycle moderate Republicans were replaced by moderate democrats in two dozen districts. The net result is that the House and Senate are now being run by people who are so far removed from the political mainstream that I have no doubts that many voters are now suffering buyers remorse. It is one thing to be the opposition party with no power and the party in control. Their wacky ways will now be laid bare for all the world to see.
As we get closer to the general election it will only get worse as Obama and Hillary try and out left each other. In the process they will turn off the moderates in their party and many independent voters nationwide. The Republicans on the other hand have a field of candidates that are, for the most part, not as far removed from the center/left in the country. As a conservative it makes me ill that we have guys like McCain, Romney and Guiliani to chose from but the lack of a real serious conservative (Come on Fred, save us from ourselves) threat in the field will prevent that republicans from trying to out do one another.
I think we saw the first shot fired by the Obama camp with that Apple commercial. He can deny it all he wants but his camps fingerprints are all over that and the Clinton's know it. Knowing the Clinton's history it won't go unanswered and their response is likely to be extremely vitriolic. Chances are that they will eat each other alive over the next 6 months and I couldn't be happier.

the answer is: yes, for now, but that may change depending if she's in Boston or New York or someplace else - then it could be no - so the actual answer is maybe, but that's not definite, her staff has to do demographic research to see what the target audience wants to hear, ah forget it - no comment, I'll have to do some research.

Anyone else catch Pelosi's stab at the Repubs during yesterday's global warming testimony by Gore? I didn't clearly see the Congressman speaking right before her, but he was talking to Gore, suggesting a point of order, when Pelosi interrupted the Congressman saying, in paraphrase, "No, I don't thing we'll do it that way. You could run things the way you wanted when you had this [holding up and shaking her gavel], but you don't have this anymore." I guess that's her interpretation of her promise to wield her gavel "in the spirit of partnership, not partisanship", as she promised when she was sworn in.

IIRC, it was Imhofe, the former Senate Committee Chairman, now the Ranking Minority member.

The results of the last mid-term election confirmed to me the substance, or lack therof, of the American voter. I thought it impossible to get elected on a platform of "Hey, like, they're doing a bad job of this war thing. We would do it better" "OK, right, so what is your plan to turn things around?" " Oh yeah, like I said, they're doing a pretty bad job. Vote for us and we'll do it better"
American voters don't seem to care much about any silly plans, who needs them? All I need is a little hope and a smile.
Oh darn, gotta go! They're talking about Anna Nicole on CNN........

Only saw one part of it.
the Senator was asking Gore if he was going to sign his own save energy pledge. The one Gore wants everyone else to sign. Gore kept trying to change the subject but the Senator would not let him. You could see Gore getting pissed "HOW DARE ANYONE SPEAK TO THE ALMIGHTY ME THIS WAY" He is known to loose his temper. Just what we need in the White House, someone who cant control their temper (SHillary) Guess he thought they were going to kiss his ass like Oscars Week.

It only took them a couple of months to lick their wounds and discover that they still have a set of balls, but it looks like the Republican's have finally begun to push back. Attaching a resolution to repeal the ban on gun ownership in the District to the DC voting right bill forced left many southern blue dog Dems between a rock and a hard place. In order to save the appearance of party unity they were forced to punt on an issue important to their caucus.
The best part of it all is that the Dems didn't see it coming and ended up looking like the freak show that they are.

Well right now, the Dems are trying to get the right and left wings of their party to vote for the war's pork laden supplemental funding bill with the poison pill of a timetable for withdrawal built in.
The yellow dogs don't want to vote for a cut and run bill, and the libs don't want to support any extension of the war, wanting everyone out right now.
Many wavering Dems had to be bought off with large qualtities of pork to gain their support.
I am waiting to see what will happen in the Senate, in conference, and what action the POTUS will take.

Blue Dogs not Yellow Dogs. A Yellow Dog is a Democrat who would rather vote for a yellow dog than a Republican. A Blue Dog is a Democrat who is all black and blue from being hit by his own party on his votes.
Those New Blue Dog Democrats are starting to get their feet held to the fire by both sides. We'll know in a few months who is and who isn't a Blue Dog.

I believe the President's response today was adequate. We will see if it gets any airplay. You know for someone that showed leadership, courage, and toughness after 9/11......he seems to have lost the charisma.
Perhaps he is using the "rope a dope" strategy and will come on in these late rounds and knock the Dems out.

I understand what you are saying, AxeMan, but the Republicans needed a good smack upside their heads. In too many areas it was getting difficult to distinguish the Republicrats from the Democans.
I'll accept the loss of this political battle, because I have faith that the socialists cannot hide their true colors too long. The more the loony left rears it's head, the more likely they are to get a good walloping in the next election.
Now, if we could just get a valid third party of muscular minarchists... :) Hell, I'd even settle for the return of John F. Kennedy Democrats and Reagan Republicans.
Edited: Added John F. lest someone think I was referring to his SCUBA driving brother, Ted.

I'm looking forward to the debates. It will be the first time since Bill took office that she will be out of her protective bubble. She has never been questioned or interviewed without having complete control over questions and topics.
.
All politicians pre screen questions and topics to a point. Saw this in the last Bill Oriley book or maybe the one before that. Fox has never interviewed Hillary because she wants to screen every question. Fox will only give guest an general overview or agree to stay away from specific topics.
I'm sure FNC isn't the only news outlet that has this standard. It's the reason Oriley wouldn't interview Kerry in 2004, after he finally agreed to come on the show. He would only do a scripted interview. Democrats agree to come on stations like FNC all the time. It's the rules they never agree to.
Didn't the Democrats just cancel the first debate because it was hosted by FNC? The are scared to debate people in their own party.

The problem is that they don't "debate" anymore. The questions are all pre-screened, and it's more like a scripted, joint press conference than a debate. In a sense, she won't be out of her little bubble.

“We shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and success of liberty.”
It is incredible to think that used to be the national policy.
Today that would read; “We shall pay any price (stipulating we withdraw in 18 months), bear no burden, meet any donor, support only our agenda, oppose any common sense, in order to assure the survival and success of our elected positions.”
Or any of these, unfortunately real quotes;
Democratic Senator Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader:
“I support finding a way to bring our troops home and would look at any plan that gave a roadmap to this goal.”
Democratic Representative Ike Skelton, Armed Services Committee chairman:
“I think there should be an overarching goal for our redeployment from that country.”
Democratic Senator Carl Levin, Armed Services Committee chairman:
“The only way to tell them is that we’re going to redeploy our forces in 4 to 6 months.”
Democratic Representative Steny H. Hoyer, House Majority Leader:
“We need a focus on redeployment of our troops, getting them out of harm’s way.”
Democratic Representative John P. Murtha, Defense Appropriations Subcommittee chairman:
“He (the President) has to say at some time: We’re going to re-deploy the troops.”

My name is x-factor and I'm a Democrat.
Hi, X.
Having admitted that and checked all the exits for a ready escape route...
Its getting very hard to be a hawk/blue dog/conservative/Southern Democrat (think Bob Graham and Sam Nunn) these days. Pelosi is giving birth to a liberal version of Rove-style politics and its just as heinous as the pseudo-intellectual tripe that comes out of the far right wing of the Republican party.
I think the answer to the title question may very well end up being "yes."
That said, I don't see any way Hillary gets the nomination. The woman has negative charisma and she's going to shrivel in the spotlight.
