KIA 14 November 2006 near Villa Hermosa, Caquetá, Colombia while conducting hostage rescue operations. Private Vanegas, nicknamed "The Baby" for being the youngest member of his class, was a student of mine and KG's and a good soldier who gave everything he had in training. He never complained and always had his head right.

His loss will be mourned, but by God they got their hostage safe and sound.

En Paz Descanse Soldado Vanegas. Adios Bebe.

He was what we all picture when we think of someone participating in training with his Combat Mind Set turned on at all times. Always asking the tactical questions and wanting our opinions of his performance.
