I use to shy away from politics, but this pulls my butt hair real hard. :mad:

Page removed as of November 2007. It stated that an immigration bill would create a "gold card" program for illegal immigrants who entered the United before the beginning of 2004, and create a guest worker program.
The article said that they would not contribute to the Social Security system, but would contribute through investment accounts. I think that is not a good idea, and think that most illegal immigrants may not have enough money to put in investment accounts. Another question if they want to, considering that it would not be mandatory.

The Stein Report explains that the "Gold Card" discussed suggested that illegal aliens would be allowed to enter the US at will and at any job, but would be denied naturalization ability. "Gold Card" would be valid forever.
Guest work program? OK, if that is what the US people wants.
Rewarding illegal immigration? WTF?! Gee, and here I am sitting waiting for a greencard lottery to maybe select me, to have a chance to serve in the military. Why don't they list on the USCIS website that morals have nothing to do with it.

Perhaps one reason Germany does not support war with any Islamic nation is that they rely on immigration from those nations. Why would such a populous nation require such immigration? It has become an entitlement nation. Perhaps they require immigration because not enough Germans are working.

After thinking and doing very little research on the theory here is what I came up with.
Social assistance is provided to persons who, for any of a number of reasons, are unable to provide themselves with a decent standard of living. Based on these excerpts I have weakly supported my assumption. Unemployment is arguably the highest in Europe, Immigration is very high making up for low fertililty replacement rates as well as keeping parts of the economy alive and paying more into the system that native Germans, immigration is led by Islamic Turkey, working individuals are paying more in taxes now than ever, and lastly, they have an elaborate welfare state that appears to be continuing on a leftist/socialist path.
One could theorize that immigration that comes predominately from an Islamic nation and supports their troubled economy would compel them to temper their jingoistic tendencies.
What do you think, sir.

Not that you addressed me directly, tcharles, but here's another thought:
What natural resources do Islamic nations such as Iran, Sudan, Iraq, UAE, and a number of other countries that may or may not have good relations to Germany, have?
Oil.
Who recently signed a deal with Sudan?

Does Germany have a large muslim community from aforementioned oil producing countries?

Furthermore, I would say that the European mentality, institutional structure and various other issues mentioned elsewhere, along with a lack of imagination, adds up to an unwillingness or inability to address any situation. Status quo and pax Europae!
Btw, didn't a number of European countries let their arms industries trade with the Middle East? I could be mistaken, though.

Immigrant labor rarely displaces white collar or high value jobs. The Immigrant labor pool tends to do the work nobody else wants or wants to do for the wage.

1. Who says that given the right circumstances, Germany would not support war with an Islamic nation? Germany is helping us in Afghanistan right now.
2. Germany already has a large immigrant population in country, and significant unemployment. Why do you think they need to rely upon additional immigration?
3. Populous nations desire immigration because the citizens deman a standard of living above what the more menial jobs will pay. Germany is still paying for the reabsorption of East Germany and all of its people (who were raised in a socialist state with government subsidized industries).
4. I would not necessarily call Germany an entitlement nation. Certainly, among European nations, they are bettert than most.
5. I think that a more thorough analysis would demonstrate that the employment rate for Germans is likely better than that for most immigrants there.

Even While I was in Germany, they had a large population of immigrants/ guest workers from different countries. I knew quite a few. Although they were for the most part looked down on, these folks were great. Maybe because, I was in Bavaria. But...... for one, they did not enter the country illegally.
Different story story her in AZ.....CA,TX and NM. These ppl are flowing over over the our southern border at some 5000 a day. This past week, these dumbass high school and middle school kids went out wandering, protesting clogging traffic, screwing up AMERICAN's lives.

You're correct, they did. For example, Heckler & Koch, based in Germany, has sold manufacturing licenses and equipment to nations such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Mexico, to name a few.

Since he can't get it up, I found an article posted on Freerepublic.com talking about what happened.Although it doesn't mention anyone going to jail overnight.
Tensions over immigration reform heightened in the Phoenix area's East Valley Thursday when students raised a Mexican flag over Apache Junction High School — and then other students yanked it down and burned it. "I know (they) shouldn't have burned the Mexican flag," said Jacob Stewart, a 16-year-old sophomore. "I heard it was raised above the American flag and that just irked me."
He said the turbulence was tied to debates going on in the state Legislature and Congress, where ideas ranging from offering illegal immigrants a chance at citizenship to making them felons are being floated.
Freshman Chelsea Garcia, 15, and junior Brittany Ramage, 16, said the unrest had more to do with long-running racial tensions at the school.
The week's events might have sparked some anger, Ramage said, "but kids aren't too deep about that stuff."
The Hispanic student who brought the Mexican flag said he was responding to a remark directed at him Wednesday. The flag-raising, flag-burning, and shoving match that followed happened before most students arrived at school.
Six students — three Hispanic and three white — will be disciplined, Principal Chad Wilson said.
Officials with the Apache Junction Unified School District would not specify what punishment the six face.
Wilson did say in a letter sent home to parents that there would be "increased supervision, including additional police officers, on the campus over the next couple of days."
School flagpoles have been lightning rods across the country this week, including an incident in which a Houston high-school principal was disciplined after he flew a Mexican flag underneath his campus' U.S. and state flags.
A new political awareness among students has also been grabbing attention, as thousands have walked out on classes to join rallies in Phoenix and elsewhere. More than 100 students from Mesa's Carson Junior High and Westwood High schools marched in protest on Mesa streets Tuesday.
All I have to say is good for that kid.
Anyway. What you can read about this incident doesn’t even come close to what really went down. I was fortunate to be listening to a local radio station her yesterday evening, KFYI. The ROTC student’s dad called the show. Here is what happened. The illegals ( yeah, I know, maybe they aren’t, but more than likely their parents are. To me, with them swarming around down here they all are and most are.) Three of them went to the flagpole, which was in front of the ROTC building, hauled down the American flag and raised their rag. Trying to be nice here. ;) They were confronted by three ROTC students. They took the rag flag down and handed it to the illegals. The illegals, came back later and took the American Flag down and tried raising thiers again. They were again confronted. This time The ROTC guys burned the rag flag. Damn! I wish I could shake their hands.
To shorten this some. The police were called in. They arrested the one ROTC kid and charged him with two felonies. One was arson, the other I’m not sure about nor was his father. They didn’t transfer the guy to the main prison until after 8pm……… which is after visiting hours. His parents couldn’t see him til the next day.
Ok! I’m burning again!! Just a couple more facts. One is, friends of that student called his parents that night, informing them that they have received calls from “people” wanting to know where he is and threatening to kill him. Then there is the wimp lib school official…. Forgot his title, don’t care either. He forbid anybody in a letter sent home with the students, that no one is to wear any sort or form of ANY countries flag to school. There is more and as I understand it now, the not wearing anything resembling a countries flag has been dumped. Dammit!!!!!!!! I’ll leave it at that. Could go on and on and not come close to what I feel.
Monday should be interesting down there.
This kinda stuff really pisses me off. Raising a foreign flag on our soil in this manner/context is sacrilege. I would have burned the damn thing too. What really stinks is that some of our fellow Americans try to be all politically correct/weak and entertain this foolishness. Last I checked it is still our country

Greencard lottery is one in a zillion chances...I would not be counting on it.
There are few more categories under which you can be granted permanent residence (green card). I am sure you've digged through all of them. Eg. complete a college degree, work in your professional field and achieve international marketability, work for a US company with H1B visa, work really hard and earn a lot of profit to the company that the company would be willing to sponsor you for permanent residence, then once you finish all your dues to the company, enlist in the US Army, get citizenship, and submit your package for SFAS. Of course, that is choosing to serve in the US Army over earning $$$, white-picket fence lifestyle etc., but IMHO that will test just how bad you want it...and believe in it.
or under Schedule A, be a physical therapist or nurse and get a permanent residence from hospital sponsorhip etc. Once again, I believe that means leaving your current chosen expertise, schooling etc., but it will show just how bad you want it. Nevertheless, I'm sure the army can always use a variety of skills and knowledge.

First time I read this I just skimmed through it and smirked. After the recent march/protest and Mexican flag waving etc etc., reading this send a chill through the spine. The hispanics are definitely using their numbers, which transcends to voting power to pressurize the gov't. I hope both republicans and democrats can work together in a spirit of patriotism this time for the sake of this nation.

then the assumption here is that they are going to keep doing jobs the american are not willing to do till the end of time. But who can guarantees that? Under the second argument, it is plausible they will move on to the next better life and let the next wave of illegals do the jobs. If this keeps up, then sure enough, the illegal aliens are displacing jobs in America
This "moving on to the next better life" is enabled by the Dream Act for example. "Dream Act would grant permanent residency – and the right to land a job - to college-educated illegals who came to the U.S. as children." In some states, illegals already can go to college and pay in-state fees. So they get rewarded by college educations that have been subsidized by American taxpayers for breaking the law. Not only this is unfair to Americans from different states who have to pay out-of-state, it is also unfair to legal aliens who also pay out of state....To quote someone else's response to the Act. Ironically it started out this way. I think that as the government fails to control/secure the border, this is their way of making the job easier, or atleast, the failures acceptable. Truth is, most of the illegals will do jobs that Americans won't do, making them a victim. No one should be exploited this way, and the people who take advantage should pay the price too. If people would not employ illegal aliens we would probably not have this problem.

Sure are in Arizona.
They're passing bills by the hour to teach english to non-english speaking children. I've even heard gripes concerning public school classes that only speak in spanish......
2 weeks ago the local media stated that in our public schools here in Phoenix the whites are the minority.
For the right price Arizona DMV will sell you an Arizona drivers license, no documents, no problem here in sunny Arizona. Well they were until a dozen or so were busted a few months ago..... I'm sure there's more selling AZ drivers licenses.

I was just thinking about some stuff that happened last fall when we were working. Kind of furthers the point of how ridiculous this all is.
If you've ever been to Campbell in the past, around 2nd brigade's area is the China Star restaurant. One day while we were working one of our patrols got called up to gate 6 I believe it was for a vehicle that was stopped by AKAL. Come to find out it was the restaurant owner's vehicle and after searching the car the guys found 2 illegals hiding in the trunk. They were of course detained and brought to the PMO, but did they see the inside of a d-cell? Hell no.
After looking into it some more, we found out that this same couple had been charged not too long before this for possessing a fat stack of fake id's. Apparently they were making some money on the side getting these guys in the country, and getting some cheap kitchen help out of it in the process.
The sign now says, "temporarily closed."

Several facts:
This crap the illegals take are jobs that American’s won’t is CRAP. I have been around awhile and known a lot of people. Did them myself and know many others that have. Just toooooo much to type right now. Anyone in here that plays golf, what do see out there ? Who are the maintenance/groundkeepers? Short story, then on with basic economics in a capitalistic country.
When I got home to the airport after my service, was met by… oh hell, several folks and family. Anyway. A good friend of mine said he had a job lined up for me. Working on the golf course at the Park District. I worked with several guys older than me, that had been bankers and some had held corporate jobs. Were they making as much? Nope. Were they happier. Yep. One would have to go into the obscure midwest area to find guys like us working a golf course today.
Point is. Americans will do those jobs. But we want to be paid fairly. With all this cheap labor flowing over the border that isn’t going to happen. Damn the new illegals that just came in tonight… some 5K will work cheaper than the guys that came before them. Yes, have to stop the hiring by American businesses. Then you have the ones that do not hire illegals and those that do. The guy following the law and what is right can’t compete.
Another thing. These illegals hang out all over the place down here, around Home Depots and such. I’ve heard people say they go ask them to to a days work, doing whatever. These SOBs won’t settle for much less than 12 bucks an hour and of course that is under the table. The only taxes they pay are when they buy something.
I heard some stats the other day about percentages of illegals working in agriculture, hotel industry, landscaping and such. THAT percentage was in the low to mid 20’s. I believe it was Pugh but the hispanic section or whatever and I know there are many out here that can find that long before I can. I `m old school. Used to have to rely on what you heard, learned or researched in a Library.

Living in the liberal state of New Jersey, I have no problem with legal immigration. I do, however, have a problem with illegal aliens. The people that have come here illegally have already committed a crime by coming here. Why would we invite international criminals in to our country? If they went about their immigration in a legal manner like so many before them, there would be no problem.
Now, that is where this whole "gold card" and giving them driver's licenses comes in to play. They want to say they aren't illegal. The age old counter-argument to that is, when do we say enough is enough? How many people can we put on welfare? They may very well be working citizens (which, in my opinion is often an illusion brought on by shear numbers), but they aren't taxpayers. Some argue that they don't go to school. They have children that do and schools aren't the only things paid for by taxes. What about all of the violence that is brought on by people with low income. I can't stand hearing that "just because they are poor minorities doesn't mean that they are violent". That is BS! Mexican gangs are epidemic in our prisons! What about the ACLU and other anti-American groups using poverty as an excuse for crime? I guess they can be hypocritical when it suits them.
I don't see flying another flag beneath the American flag and the State's flag as wrong. In my high school, we flew a different flag every day. Of course it was flown beneath all of the other flags. Most often was the POW/MIA flag. As liberal as my HS was, if someone took down the flag they would without a doubt get their ass beat. I wouldn't put it past the teachers to even do it.
To that principal that says that you can't wear anything with the American flag portrayed in any manner - I would rather go to jail than to be told I can't wear my flag. It is with great honor that I wear it on my right sleeve and nobody is going to tell me otherwise. What about those JROTC cadets that wear uniforms?
Illegal immigrants DO take the more blue collar jobs away from Americans. The reason being is that we Americans see these people in these jobs and then believe that they are beneath us. Give me a break. If you have no education, no job skills, and nothing else going for you, no job is beneath you. You are lucky to have a life, let alone a job.
If so many illegal aliens come here seaking a better life, why do they f*** up everything? Why do they fly their country's flag? In the days of old, when immigration was at its peak, people were proud to display the American flag. Of course they were proud of their heritage also. Thus, American and foreign flags were flown. Yet, in today's age you see people with Mexican flags hanging in their windows. The only red, white, and blue I see are on bandannas being waived by so-called "gangsters". They don't say "I want to be American" they say "I want to go to America so I can get some money to send home to my family". They have no patriotism and no obligation to the American way of life. They use our freedoms to take advantage of our system. Much the same way the terrorists did on 9/11. That is why they are a terrorist threat.

Living in the liberal state of New Jersey, I have no problem with legal immigration. I do, however, have a problem with illegal aliens. The people that have come here illegally have already committed a crime by coming here. Why would we invite international criminals in to our country? If they went about their immigration in a legal manner like so many before them, there would be no problem.
Now, that is where this whole "gold card" and giving them driver's licenses comes in to play. They want to say they aren't illegal. The age old counter-argument to that is, when do we say enough is enough? How many people can we put on welfare? They may very well be working citizens (which, in my opinion is often an illusion brought on by shear numbers), but they aren't taxpayers. Some argue that they don't go to school. They have children that do and schools aren't the only things paid for by taxes. What about all of the violence that is brought on by people with low income. I can't stand hearing that "just because they are poor minorities doesn't mean that they are violent". That is BS! Mexican gangs are epidemic in our prisons! What about the ACLU and other anti-American groups using poverty as an excuse for crime? I guess they can be hypocritical when it suits them.
I don't see flying another flag beneath the American flag and the State's flag as wrong. In my high school, we flew a different flag every day. Of course it was flown beneath all of the other flags. Most often was the POW/MIA flag. As liberal as my HS was, if someone took down the flag they would without a doubt get their ass beat. I wouldn't put it past the teachers to even do it.
To that principal that says that you can't wear anything with the American flag portrayed in any manner - I would rather go to jail than to be told I can't wear my flag. It is with great honor that I wear it on my right sleeve and nobody is going to tell me otherwise. What about those JROTC cadets that wear uniforms?
Illegal immigrants DO take the more blue collar jobs away from Americans. The reason being is that we Americans see these people in these jobs and then believe that they are beneath us. Give me a break. If you have no education, no job skills, and nothing else going for you, no job is beneath you. You are lucky to have a life, let alone a job.

They don't say "I want to be American" they say "I want to go to America so I can get some money to send home to my family". They have no patriotism and no obligation to the American way of life. For the right price Arizona DMV will sell you an Arizona drivers license, no documents, no problem here in sunny Arizona. Well they were until a dozen or so were busted a few months ago..... I'm sure there's more selling AZ drivers licenses.

Well see in most American states your kids only need what to go to a public school?? Parents answer now. Topically a local address and a birth certificate is all someone really needs. In Texas and most States public schools are paid by property taxes. My parents and most of ours here don't have kids in school anymore. But their taxes pay for others, in the SW States for illegal aliens. My uncle fights for the "rights: and laws in Arizona and my other uncle for California. Both of them are ether a dean or professors in Major State universities. Yes, major BS. You be at home for Christmas.
See an illegal alien rents a house in the state and can send their kids to American schools. For free, now most these are the better off illegal aliens. But even the farm workers send their kids to American schools while they work the jobs us Americans don't want. That's what we are told.

One day while we were working one of our patrols got called up to gate 6 I believe it was for a vehicle that was stopped by AKAL. Come to find out it was the restaurant owner's vehicle and after searching the car the guys found 2 illegals hiding in the trunk. They were of course detained and brought to the PMO, but did they see the inside of a d-cell? Hell no.
After looking into it some more, we found out that this same couple had been charged not too long before this for possessing a fat stack of fake id's. Apparently they were making some money on the side getting these guys in the country, and getting some cheap kitchen help out of it in the process.
This happens all across America.. Law enforcement agents to Hospitals not turning illegal aliens into ICE. Why, I know all of the LE guys on here can answer for their states unofficially here. But I've been told its a National level issue. ICE can't or wouldn't be able to handle the million (+) a day "turn-IN's" of illegal aliens to be deported back to their different countries. CBS just did a report on this show three different ethic group that work in different parts of the USA. They get caught by LE and just get turn free after making bail. Growing up I never witnessed any illegal immigrants working in IOWA detasseling corn, picking up garbage, feeding the pigs etc.
Here in Arizona illegal immigrants are doing every job one can imagine. Most I've seen are building homes, carpenters, brick layers, landscapers etc definitely jobs “Americans won’t do”.
Make no mistake, the people pushing the politicians’ buttons are the major players: food and wine corporations, land developers, builders anything that makes major dollars off of “cheap” labor. The illegal immigrants are NOT taking or doing jobs Americans “won’t do” they’re simply doing jobs a whole lot cheaper and making a few very wealthy in the process. The ONLY citizens that will be harshly affected if we were to put a stop to illegal immigrants and illegal immigration are:
a. Big business
b. illegal immigrants
c. politicians
Would I pay an extra dollar for broccoli? You bet I would in-order to NOT pay for the cost of an illegal immigrants health care, education, housing, groceries, prison stay, etc.

Perhaps it isn't customary to do so, but I can't find anything about it in AR 840-10 "FLAGS, GUIDONS, STREAMERS, TABARDS, AND AUTOMOBILE AND AIRCRAFT PLATES" where it says that you can't fly a foreign flag beneath an American. I also checked this site (http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html) and couldn't find specific information about it.
I can see where that would be disrespectful to other nations, but in a teaching environment I don't think foreign nationals would mind all that much. Our conversation as we passed the flags would be "what flag do you think that is" (for example) "Sweden" "my family is from Sweden, always wanted to go there. Hear it is beautiful." Being that I am a bit of a geography buff :lifter I usually got the flags right on. The flags that I didn't know encouraged me to look them up and in doing so I learned a little about another country's culture.
Never would any flag be above the American flag and we had complete honors to the flag on a daily basis. Including a detail that would lower and raise the flag. If students didn't catch the bus on time, it might be comprised of a teacher and a student. Most often just two teachers. That is where I learned how to properly lower and raise a flag.

True indeed. They just outbid us. It happens on a larger scale too. For example Chinese printed circuit board manufacturers started taking tons of business from American companies because they would do the work 5-10 times cheaper. They don't have to uphold the standards and regulations we do so they can get away with it. Nearly all manufacturers do this. It is not often we see "made in USA" on products. The employers here are guilty of the same thing, but since the workers are on our soil it is more of a slap in the face to Americans.

Anyway...... heard a story tonight from a guy that called into KFYI. He had a neighbor that was getting his house painted. The folks doing the work were all hispanic. He asked his neighbor, knowing they were friends, if those guys were illegal. Neighbor said as far as he knew..... yes. This guy asked why did you hire them. Neighbor told him. he had gotten quotes, these guys were cheapest...... Brings up.... never mind no time. So the guy asked for the card of one of the AMERICAN bidders, painter's card and called them. That painting contractor had taken over from his dad who started the business in 1948. He like most others were 900 dollars higher in thier bids.
They have to comply with alllllllllll the dumbass government regulations, fees and taxes. He also said.... I refuse to pay my guys 6 7 8 bucks an hour, this will be our last year in business!!!!!!!!!!

Mom's worked at a factory operating some machines and she was paid a respectable wage for a factory worker. Then the company, tired of "wasting" money moved to Mexico where they can pay 10 workers what they paid 1 in the states.
It's an epidemic. My parents were immigrants. Mom became naturalized a few years ago. I remember going with her to help her fill out job applications because at some places she wouldn't be allowed to take them home and watch with disgust as secretaries would completely humiliate her because she couldn't understand. I hated it but we all understood that even if you were only taking out the trash the staff would need to be able to communicate with you.
Now I go to the local McD's or BurgerQueen and the craziest thing....the speakers at the drivethru work but I can't understand what they're saying. You go in thinking perhaps it'll be better inside and it's the same garbage....no one speaks english! How do you run a major fast food franchise with non-english speaking people? These are jobs that at one time I remember high school kids would have. I haven't seen a single job these illegals take which an American isn't willing to do. The problem with us Americans is we want fair wages.....the horror. :rolleyes: Unfortunately that is alot of the problem. In Detroit the unions run roughshod over management and where once management was the problem now the unions are. $150k mechanics and you'll be lucky to get an honest day's work.
I speak spanish. I was brought up in Cuban & Colombian culture. Hell, I was brought up in Miami so Cuba wasn't but a 10 minute drive to Calle Ocho. However I refuse to speak spanish to any of the illegals I encounter. I have had work done in my home and gone with the contractors who I was comfortable with would do the job and if anything went wrong I had legals means to get it corrected. Neighbors thought I was crazy but I've seen the disastrous work some of these illegals do because they lie about their skills.

See they don't really need a Fake SSN, most only need to get is proof if insurance then get a State drivers license. That BS, but call up your local DL center and see what your state rules are. Hell you have US Companies make "Satellite" factories on each side of the river.They build the products in Mexico or elsewhere, lets say a Car seat, in Mexico or China, bring in through under NAFTA take it to Detroit. Put that seat in a Ford car, and in a box that was made in India it has the seat cover and foam for the seat in that new Ford Mustang. Zip it up and it was all made in the US for those little window stickers.

The guy had to get woman to take our order. We all laugh and just could believe it.

Sooooo not being shy, I get the attention of a manager and told him it was unsat, he wound up standing next to the woman and was providing her the order/numbers in English so she could repeat them.
Did I understand the numbers as she called them out? Yes....but it doesn't matter. You want to work in a public setting in America? Speak English.

First: You are right MtnGoat. I grew up in the 50's, we played all sorts of games in the street on our block. By today' standards, that street would be classified as maybe a lane and a quarter in width. Hell, today parents are afraid to let thier kids out of thier sight, even if they are out front.

Walked in the gas station and asked if I could see thier map. Three guys working there. NOT one spoke English!. Yeah, sometimes you wonder if you are still in America.

South Florida and Western Texas are not culturally part of the US. It's ironic that they have commercials on learning english because in day to day living there isn't a need for it, unless you work in a professional capacity.

I decided to look into a few of these issues. This boycott was the subject of a talk show aired on FOX radio network which I listened to on my way home today. I did not know anything about it. Ok, maybe I have been living under a rock.
There was one interesting listener who called in and said that Americans do not have the stomach for what is going to happen on May 1st. He repeated this several times. Finally the host said, "are you threating us?" Apparently the caller hung up. I'm not sure about the whole scope of their plans on May 1, and I'm not exactly sure who "they" are, but one thing I do know, whoever they are, I suggest they tread lightly. It's one thing to put up with liberal bs, I mean, after all they are Americans, but to put up with this kind of crap from illegal immigrants: I don't think so. I don't know about anyone else, but I cut my own grass, wash my own car, cook my own food, etc. They can take off from May 1 through April 30, 2007 and personally, I could care less. Maybe you could actually order a hamburger and understand what the fast food worker is saying. Okay, sometimes I do eat out. :D

WASHINGTON -- President Bush said Friday the national anthem should be sung in English -- not Spanish -- in a blunt rejection of a new Spanish-language version. He also expressed opposition to a national work stoppage called for Monday to dramatize the importance of immigrants to the U.S. economy.
"I'm not a supporter of boycotts," Bush said, while restating his support for a comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws.
Bush made his comments at a Rose Garden news conference as a Spanish-language version of "The Star-Spangled Banner," hit the airways featuring artists such as Wyclef Jean, hip-hop star Pitbull and Puerto Rican singers Carlos Ponce and Olga Tanon.
Called "Nuestro Himno" -- "Our Anthem" -- the Spanish version rewrites some of the English version. For instance, the second stanza says, "My people keep fighting. It's time to break the chains."
"I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English," Bush said.
Monday's planned boycott and the emergence of a Spanish-language anthem are ingredients in a national debate over how to deal with an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States. It is an issue that has sent hundreds of thousands of protesters into the streets of major U.S. cities to demand the lowering of citizenship barriers. Congress is struggling to deal with the issue, and the House and Senate are moving on opposite tracks.
"I understand how difficult this issue is for some people here in Washington and around the country," Bush said. His approach calls for a temporary guest worker program, tougher enforcement of laws against hiring illegal immigrants and stricter border controls.

Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., said he would introduce a Senate resolution Monday "giving senators an opportunity to remind the country why we sing our national anthem in English." Noting that America is a nation of immigrants, Alexander said, "We are proud of the countries we have come from, but we are prouder to be Americans."
Monday's protest is dubbed "A day Without Immigrants." Activists are urging immigrants across the United States to skip work, avoid spending money and march in the streets. But there are concerns that such protests will make immigrants look anti-American, annoy the public and alienate lawmakers in Washington
Senate leaders, meanwhile, edged closer to an agreement that could clear the way for passage of broad immigration legislation.
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid told reporters he was dropping two demands that contributed to gridlock several weeks ago. He said he would no longer insist that conservative critics be limited to three chances to change the bill before it passes. And he said he would no longer try to dictate which Republicans are named to negotiate a final bill with the House.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has said he wants votes on 20 or more amendments, and that it is not up to Democrats to decide which Republicans are picked to bargain with the House. At the same time, he has been meeting privately with fellow Republicans this week to reduce the number of amendments.
Reid made his comments three days after a White House meeting that was designed to impart fresh momentum in the drive for election-year legislation. Senators of both parties emerged from the session praising the president's involvement.
Supporters of the Senate legislation claim roughly 70 votes for their bill. It includes provisions to strengthen the nation's borders, expand a guest worker program and give many of the nation's illegal immigrants an eventual opportunity to become citizens.

That why San Deigo put up their metal fence line for I beleive 25 Miles. That why San Diego put up their metal fence line for I believe 25 Miles. Perhaps one reason Germany does not support war with any Islamic nation is that they rely on immigration from those nations. Why would such a populous nation require such immigration? It has become an entitlement nation. Perhaps they require immigration because not enough Germans are working.
It appears the same is happening here.
It has been a long time since I was in Germany but they had a guest worker program than and still do. Much of the agricultural work is done by Inalian migrants (sound familiar) and Turks work the mills. There is one important difference though. Migrants do not get citoizenship and children born on German soil do not receive automatic citizenship as they do here.

I think that the schools that were 50% empty yesterday make a strong case for voting against that added tax or school bond referendum, we already have plenty of schools here for the legal citizens. Send the rest home permanently.

I agree with Team Sergeant and The Reaper.
One thing I might add is I believe progress has been made on policing the borders. But I think an equal, if not greater issue, is the policing of our interior. I've heard estimates that 50% of the illegal population is due to expired visas. If this is the case, one could extrapolate that those granted 'working visas' in 1986 under IRCA are back into the mix. How will they manage 13+ million more? Networks contribute to further abuse. If we don't cut-off networks by putting pressure on employers and special interest groups the benefits will always outweigh the risk. Once they get past the border, few negative consequences befall them. Worse case, they voluntarily deport and start all over again.
One of the bi-products of illegal immigration is a break down in our habit of compliance. There is no need to have a cop at every stop sign for most of to stop. We do it as part of our habit of compliance. When you have a large portion of the population who freely breaks the law, they get the idea that laws are only suggestions whereby they can pick and choose which laws suit their fancy at any particular moment. Once the habit of compliance is erroded, you have anarchy or something similar in shape and size.
Two things:
Yopu can bail the boat all you want but before you make progress you must stop the leak.
To be totally successful in ejecting all we must repeal or alter the 14th Ammendment to the Constitution which you are sworn to defend.

OTOH, I disagree with your second point. While I may not like the fact that citizenship is granted to all those born in this country, that does not mean that I would not enforce it. They are legal citizens, like it or not. Their parents, however, if illegal, should be deported. I would give them the option of taking the child with them or turning it over to the state. I suspect that after a few well-publicized cases, people would stop coming here illegally to have their children become citizens in taxpayer funded hospitals, and attend our taxpayer funded schools.
Drastic times call for drastic measures.

A Day Without an Illegal Immigrant
An imaginary exercise.

What would a day without illegal aliens really be like? Let’s try to imagine it.
On May 1, millions of illegal aliens working in meat-processing plants, construction, restaurants, hotels, and other “jobs Americans won’t do” are supposed to stay home from work to show the importance of their labor to our nation’s economy. Doubtless, there will be some inconvenience if that happens, but there is another side to the story that is not being reported.
We are talking about illegal aliens, not mere “immigrants.” If legal immigrants stopped working for a day, we would miss the services of physicians, nurses, computer programmers, writers, actors, musicians, entrepreneurs of all stripes, and some airline pilots…as well as the CEO of Google. That would be more than an inconvenience, but it won’t happen because legal immigrants are not out marching angrily for rights that are already protected by our courts.
But if illegal aliens all took the day off and were truly invisible for one day, there would be some plusses along with the mild inconveniences.
Hospital emergency rooms across the southwest would have about 20-percent fewer patients, and there would be 183,000 fewer people in Colorado without health insurance.
OBGYN wards in Denver would have 24-percent fewer deliveries and Los Angeles’s maternity-ward deliveries would drop by 40 percent and maternity billings to Medi-Cal would drop by 66 percent.
Youth gangs would see their membership drop by 50 percent in many states, and in Phoenix, child-molestation cases would drop by 34 percent and auto theft by 40 percent.
In Durango, Colorado, and the Four Corners area and the surrounding Indian reservations, the methamphetamine epidemic would slow for one day, as the 90 percent of that drug now being brought in from Mexico was held in Albuquerque and Farmington a few hours longer. According to the sheriff of La Plata County, Colorado, meth is now being brought in by ordinary illegal aliens as well as professional drug dealers.
If the “Day-Without-an-Immigrant Boycott” had been held a year earlier on May 8, 2005, and illegal alien Raul Garcia-Gomez had stayed home and did not work or go to a party that day, Denver police officer Donnie Young would still be alive and Garcia-Gomez would not be sitting in a Denver jail awaiting trial.
If the boycott had been held on July 1, 2004, Justin Goodman of Thornton, Colorado, would still be riding his motorcycle and Roberto Martinez-Ruiz would not be in prison for killing him and then fleeing the scene while driving on a suspended license.
If illegal aliens stayed home—in Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, and 100 other countries—the Border Patrol would have 3,500 fewer apprehensions (of the 12,000 who try each day).
Colorado taxpayers would save almost $3,000,000 in one day if illegals do not access any public services, because illegal aliens cost the state over $1 billion annually according to the best estimates.
Colorado’s K-12 school classrooms would have 131,000 fewer students if illegal aliens and the children of illegals were to stay home, and Denver high schools’ dropout rate would once again approach the national norm.
Colorado’s jails and prisons would have 10-percent fewer inmates, and Denver and many other towns would not need to build so many new jails to accommodate the overcrowding.
Our highway patrol and county sheriffs would have about far fewer DUI arrests and there would be a dramatic decline in rollovers of vanloads of illegal aliens on I-70 and other highways.
On a Day Without an Illegal Immigrant, thousands of workers and small contractors in the construction industry across Colorado would have their jobs back, the jobs given to illegal workers because they work for lower wages and no benefits. (On the other hand, if labor unions continue signing up illegal workers, no one will be worrying about Joe Six-Pack’s loss. Sorry, Joe, but you forgot to tell your union business agent that your job is as important as his is.)
If it fell on a Sunday, Catholic Churches in the southwestern states might have 20-percent fewer parishioners at Mass if all illegals stayed home, but they would be back next Sunday, so the bishop’s job is not in danger. The religious leaders who send people to the marches and rallies will never fear for their jobs, because illegal aliens need their special “human-rights” advocacy and some priests and nuns seem especially devoted to that cause. The fact that most Catholics disagree with the bishops’ radicalism doesn’t seem to affect their dedication to undermining the rule of law.
All of this might be a passing colorful episode in the heated national debate over immigration policy if it weren’t for an odd coincidence: The immigration-enforcement agency responsible for locating and deporting illegal aliens is also taking the day off today. Of course, they didn’t call it a boycott. It is just (non)business as usual.

There was talk about some schools being at 50% or less attendance yesterday. I remember when I was in school that we looked for any reason to get out of class. While I'm sure there were quite a few students engaging in the protests, I would guess that there were also quite a few who just saw this as a good "cut day." Regardless, I do think that them being allowed to skip school is rediculous.
Also, a fence on the border would definately be a start, but are we sure that the NG is the way to go? Would it be good to put the additional strain on our military when we already have an organization meant to deal with the border, especially with the looming possibilty of military action in Iran? Why not make a push for more employment of Border Patrol agents, and possibly an increase in the number of BORTAC teams working in the area? Why not use some of our cool military technology that we have for monitoring the border?
I do feel that we should not allow amnesty to those already here, because whats to say that despite our best efforts in the years ahead we don't just end up in the same situation again?
If this was really THAT serious to everyone (as I believe it is starting to become) the government will gather the resources necessary to take care of the problem. I think that as these "Mexican Americans" continue to push the issue, they do more harm than good to their cause, and soon they will have the entire country against them.
Just my opinion.

These illegals continue to cost the rest of us MONEY!!!!! Take just the anchor babies. The illegals will do anything to get over here to have the baby born as an American citizen......... not to mention for FREE. How many of you folks out here can get the FREE part as a citizen??? Hell! Years ago, for instance, pregnant, mexican women were crossing over the border anytime they wanted into Brownsville TX, JUST to have the baby for FREE and then going back to mexico. There are places along the border down here, where the kids live in mexico, cross the border everyday, catch the bus to school. Not to mention, these illegals are pumping out babies at one hell of a rate. This is a frickin invasion!!!!!!!!!

PHOENIX - A posse of 100 volunteers and sheriff’s deputies will patrol the Phoenix area and arrest any illegal immigrants, the county sheriff said.
The group likely will be deployed across parts of Maricopa County by the weekend, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Wednesday.
Volunteers will be drawn from the department’s 3,000-member posse, whose members are trained and are often former deputies.
“It’s important to send the message out to stay in Mexico and don’t come roaming around here hoping you’re going to get amnesty,” said Arpaio, who in years past gained notoriety for putting inmates on chain gangs and issuing them striped uniforms and pink underwear.
Arpaio’s deputies have already arrested about 120 illegal immigrants using a new state smuggling law.
“We’re going to arrest any illegal who violates this new law,” he said. “I’m not going to turn these people over to federal authorities so they can have a free ride back to Mexico. I’ll give them a free ride into the county jail.”
Unusual application of law
Under the law — as interpreted by the Maricopa County attorney — illegal immigrants can be arrested and prosecuted for conspiracy to smuggle themselves into the country. The law’s authors have said they intended it to be used to prosecute smugglers, not the immigrants being smuggled.
Lawyers for nearly 50 undocumented immigrants charged with conspiracy to commit human smuggling have filed motions to have the charges dismissed.
A Los Angeles attorney brought into the case last week by the Mexican Consul General’s Office in Phoenix plans to file another motion claiming Maricopa County Attorney officials are violating state and federal law because it’s the federal government’s job to control illegal immigration.
Both motions are to be argued in county court on May 23.

He has been doing this for about six weeks. True, he doesn't turn them over to ICE or any feds, he locks them up. He says to the illegals, go around, but don't come through Maricopa County.

I just love the way local news (http://www.wral.com/fayettevillenews/9533922/detail.html) reported this on Bragg. 58 people detained on FT Bragg, not 59 illegal immigrants caught working on Bragg. The fact that they called the illegals people is what gets me. PC to me.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- A joint effort of Fort Bragg officials, the FBI, U.S. Marshals and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents has led to the detention of 58 civilian workers with suspected false or fraudulently obtained identification.
The sweep was conducted between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. when most of the thousand soldiers and civilian workers who live off the post enter the gates. Officials said the vast majority of the detainees were construction workers.
"Today's operation was part of our ongoing force protection measures," said Tom McCollum with Fort Bragg's Public Affairs Office. "The operation went very smoothly. There were no incidents or accidents."
In addition, four individuals were arrested on drug possession charges and 14 vehicles were impounded, McCollum said.
Some of the people detained were from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, ICE spokesman Marc Raimondi said.
People trying to enter Fort Bragg with false IDs can be charged with criminal trespass and presenting false identification, McCollum said. The garrison commander also can prevent contractors who knowingly hire such people from working at the base.
In the past year, more than 150 people have been detained as they tried to enter Fort Bragg without proper ID, McCollum said. The base is home to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command and the 82nd Airborne Division.

For myself I'm interested in the Guest Worker program.....when does anyone think it will be implemented? Does anyone think it will be implemented this year? After the Nov. Elections?
I am interested in this program because this looks like pretty much my only option to come into the US.
And from a business owners/employers (small or large) perspective how would anyone here feel about eventually sponsoring a labourer for a green card? What about if the costs could be made up by me paying for all the fees, or having the costs taken from my salary.....would you still be willing?
And would anyone know a business owner or company that is in need of workers and willing to sponsor. Keep in mind I will happily pay for all the fees, try to help with the paperwork, and pay for any attorney.
I apologize in advance if this sounds like some sort of sales pitch, that is not my intention. I am just interested in hearing peoples' perspectives on this.
