Sgt. James Harwood
48 years ago today Jim went MIA. A top notch SF medic and a super guy. We became friends when he came to the 6th Group in early '70. Jim actually took a few days leave to go to DC to visit Ms Alexander, the lady responsible for cutting group assignments back then. He bought her dinner, a sure way to get orders for 5th Grp in VN. I remember how thrilled he was when his orders came. I remember too the day word came back to Bragg that he was MIA, the last time he was seen he had a head wound and was being dragged into the jungle by NVA.
I think about him every year on this date and more often. Great sense of humor, was the butt of jokes about his physically huge head, and always dependable.
Rest in peace brother, you are never forgotten or taken for granted.

To his friends, family, and team mates I extend my deepest condolences. To him, I hope that his passing was quick and painless. To everyone that seeks this occupation I'm willing to bet that had SGT Harwood known prior to asking to be assigned to 5th at that time that he would never return to the US he would have still volunteered to go.

Thank You, Jim
Just a recharge on this thread to bring Sgt Harwood’s sacrifice back to the forefront on this day of remembering the selfless sacrifice of so many brave souls.
Thank you Jim, you are not forgotten.

Good post and remembrance…. the older I get the more 'remembering' I do...normal I guess but can get a bit heavy at times.
Saw a soldier talking the other day and he call this 'Thanksgiving day'....giving thanks for all of those that gave so we could carry on.
Carrying on was his point....live large and rejoice in life...that is the best remembrance. That is how we should honor sacrifice....

50 years ago today. Still think of Sgt Jim Harwood
Fifty years ago today Sgt Jim Harwood went MIA. He was in A-341 and then B-43 5th SFG Vietnam. I still raise a glass to him every January 15th and Memorial Day. Rest In Peace, Jim.
