Bombs In Iran

I'm very interested to see who ends up claiming responsibility for the bombing since like the article says its 5 days before their "elections".

TEHRAN, Iran (Reuters) -- At least three bombs have exploded in the southwestern Iranian oil town of Ahvaz, killing three people, an Interior Ministry spokesman said.

The semi-official Fars news agency said five people had been killed and 25 wounded in the blasts at about 9 a.m. (0330 GMT).

State television put the number of wounded at 30, but did not say how many had been killed.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the coordinated attacks, which occurred just five days before Iran holds presidential elections.

A local journalist said four bombs had gone off near government buildings, including the governor's office, in the town, 550 km (340 miles) southwest of Tehran.

He listed the other targets as the housing and urban planning department, the management and planning department and a housing complex for state media employees.

Five people were killed in ethnic unrest in April in the partly Arabic-speaking province of Khuzestan, of which Ahvaz is the capital. Three hundred people were arrested.

Iran blames US-backed 'terrorists' for bomb attacks

Iran on Sunday blamed "terrorists" and Arab separatists sheltered by US troops in neighbouring Iraq for a series of deadly bomb blasts in the capital and the southwestern city of Ahvaz.

A top national security official, Ali Agha Mohammadi, told AFP that an ethnic Arab separatist group had claimed responsibility for a quartet of bomb blasts in Ahvaz, that killed at least eight people and wounded 75.

The attacks came just days before the Islamic republic's presidential election.

"The terrorists of Ahvaz infiltrated Iran from the region of Basra" in southern Iraq, Mohammadi said. "These terrorists have been trained under the umbrella of the Americans in Iraq."

He said Iran suspected British troops based across the border in southern Iraq might also have links to the group, but added: "We are not certain".

Later Sunday, another bomb attack rocked a busy square in the capital, killing two people according to an updated toll given by the official IRNA news agency.

"We call on the Americans and the British to condemn these attacks and hand over the terrorists in Iraq. Sadly, they have so far not said anything," Mohammadi said.

Iran's main armed opposition group, the People's Mujahedeen, are also based across the border in Iraq.

Wow that was some damn fast investigative work... I'm sure even if we weren't in Iraq they'd somehow blame us anyways.
They probably bombed their own people to attempt to slow down the growing democracy movement there but thats just what I think.
