Egyptian Anti-Aircraft Missiles Reported in Sinai

Egyptian Anti-Aircraft Missiles Reported in Sinai

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Ne...1#.UDIb2kS7HJw

"According to a report on Voice of Israel government-sponsored radio, Egypt has moved anti-aircraft missiles into the Sinai Peninsula.

The radio station's Arab affairs analyst, Eran Zinger, reported Saturday that Egypt has deployed both anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles near Israel’s border in the Egyptian Sinai, without Israel’s permission..................."

There was a little bit of a flap when Egypt moved troops into the Sinai "in order to restore order". I don't think the International Community will forcefully point out to Egypt that the militants don't have aircraft.

So if Egypt continues to build up forces in the Sinai and Israel starts to take them out who's the bad guy?

Ballsy move by Egypt, breaking the treaty. If they put troops/ AA in zone C, WTF has the MFO been reporting. Those Inf Bn's are probably on high alert.

Egypt troops step up campaign against Sinai militants

Egypt troops step up campaign against Sinai militants

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-19409462

"Egyptian security forces have killed 11 militants since launching an offensive in the Sinai peninsula earlier this month, the defence ministry has said.

The operation, launched after 16 border guards were killed in an attack on 5 August, has also led to the arrest of 23 suspects and seizures of weapons..........."

While the short time "justification" seems reasonable, just some question about the units and equipment involved, the questions becomes 1. How long is this mission going to last 2. How much more heavy equipment is going to be brought in and 3. Does everything go home "when it's over"?

If the units move to the border and set up camp it will be a clear violation of the treaty - but will play well on the Arab street.

Egypt broadens Sinai campaign to root out terror

Egypt broadens Sinai campaign to root out terror

http://www.jpost.com/MiddleEast/Article.aspx?id=283021

"CAIRO - Egypt's military said on Wednesday it would broaden its offensive against militants in the Sinai Peninsula, a campaign that has raised concerns in Israel about the movement of heavy armor into the area near its border..............."

This is similar to the above posted story but is from the Jerusalem Post. A slightly different tone - and a little more concern in the remarks section than the more international slant.

Egypt replaces tanks with armored vehicles in Sinai

Egypt replaces tanks with armored vehicles in Sinai

http://www.jpost.com/MiddleEast/Article.aspx?id=283838

"ISMAILIA, Egypt - Egypt's military is deploying light armored vehicles in Sinai to replace some heavy tanks whose presence at the border area had raised concerns in Israel, security sources said on Tuesday.

A source said last week the army had begun withdrawing some of the tanks, after they had been deployed as part of an operation against militants who attacked and killed 16 border guards on Aug. 5...................."

The "show of force" is over? Maybe?

I'm guessing that Israel's concerns (and possible repercussions) were conveyed in no uncertain terms through back channels so as not to unduly embarrass the Egyptians.
They are angry that they can't exert absolute sovereignty (militarily) in the Sinai......but they're not stupid.
