position in contact

I am sorry because I have no clue and do not know which thread this goes in. My question is, which position is the most effecive to way to carry the weapon in, in a break contact or fire and manuaver situation. Is is muzzle towards the groud, muzzle in the sky or whatnot? I understand that keeping it downrange and shooting is the best in the fight but for most other situations what is the best way to carry your weapon?

Thank you very much for the help and I am glad you all had fun at the SHOW in Orlando, I was there sat and it was almost to much to take in.

Lion, It is a question solved usually in team and unit SOPs concerning vectors of fire positions in movement order etc. The first best reasoning is pointed in the dirction of your move related to your sector of fire. You are looking for best reaction time. That is to say if you sector is to the right and you are a right hander your head and muzzle are facing different directions, you would need to switch to left hand carry.
Mostly, "at the ready" barrel forward and not directly on the man in front of you. safe levels based on alert levels, finger off the trigger until engaging... Also as a Marine I would thought that would have been in your training. Blitz

I too find that a strange question for a Marine.

Thank you very much for the help the reason I brought it up was because we did an EMP shoot the other day. during the shoot yours eyes traveled in the same direction as your barrel.

the argument that came up was that it would be more effective you keep your muzzle in the vicinity of the target and move your head independantly scanning left to right without moving the weapon.

Also while we were doing team peel exercises it came up that some guys carried thier weapons with the muzzle in the sky and others moved using the "alert to the dirt" so I thought it would be best to put the questions up here because have a better understanding of the right thing and you are all teachers as well

Yes to scanning and sweeping,b but I have a hard time with not pointing the weapon in the direction I'm looking. Do not you think it maybe not so smart to hold the weapon up and chest close while one turns and looks around a corner...duhh. You don't pie around a corner with your nose. "eyes And barrel" increase your peripheral vision. Blitzzz

The muzzle is your "third eye".
