I can see why it was experimental only. Very costly compared to what was adopted, ie large outer diameter housing with/without slots and part of the barrel clamp housing.

Not only costly,,

I suspect that as the assembly heats during full speed use, the centrifugal force will cause the tips to either point outward and/or become red-hot projectiles in their own right??
