Quote:
FORT BRAGG -- A Fort Bragg Green Beret is being honored for courage and valor after sacrificing his own life to save the lives of his teammates and 15 Afghanistan national army soldiers.
White House officials say President Obama will award Staff Sergeant Robert Miller posthumously with the medal of honor.
The Department of Defense said 24 year-old Miller was injured during small-arms fire in Barikowt, Afghanistan in January. Miller worked in Special Forces as a weapons sergeant. He was assigned to Company A, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group Airborne, which was based in from Fort Bragg, N.C.
According to the Department of Defense, Miller was deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 and awarded with the Army Commendation Medal with Valor for courage in the face of the enemy.
He was awarded eight other medals while in service, including the Army Good Conduct Medal, two Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development ribbons, the Ranger Tab and Special Forces Tab.
Miller is survived by his parents three brothers and three sisters.
The Medal of honor was last given out on September 17,2009. The first one was awarded the Civil War in 1863. It is the highest military decoration bestowed by the U.S. Government.

I spoke with my son earlier who went through basic, airborne, sopc and the Q course with SSG Miller. He said he was a good soldier. RIP Soldier. Thank you for your courage and your sacrifice. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
