Colin L. Powell, RIP

Colin L. Powell (2021-10-18)
American Hero

“We have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father, grandfather, and a great American,” the family added.

“General Colin L. Powell, former U.S. Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff passed away this morning due to complications from Covid 19. He was fully vaccinated. We want to thank the medical staff at Walter Reed National Medical Center for their caring treatment,” the Powell family said in a statement posted to Facebook.

He served honorably in the US Army and beyond in public service - for that - RIP.

For his political activities since he became a private citizen - not so much.

So bottom line - Rest In Peace.

Along with all the accolades, let's not forget his "Pottery Barn" rule led to 8+ years in Iraq.

RIP.

In defense of Gen. Powell, his quote below. Gen Powell and Casper Weinberg were the only two that proposed the the concept of total force. The "Powell Doctrine".
imho, General Powell was correct in his view, if we are going to war, use the full force of American power. End it as quickly as possible, war of attrition should not be an option.

Quote:
Powell denies using the term "pottery barn rule", but stated:
It is said that I used the "Pottery Barn rule." I never did it; [Thomas] Friedman did it ... But what I did say ... [is that] once you break it, you are going to own it, and we're going to be responsible for 26 million people standing there looking at us. And it's going to suck up a good 40 to 50 percent of the Army for years. And it's going to take all the oxygen out of the political environment ..."[7]
