China Beach TV series
I watched the pilot of China Beach tonight and haven't seen the show since it first aired a couple of weeks after our, now WO2, son was born so I forgot stuff. One being, "The needs of the Army". They had SP5 Beckett with Graves Registration. That remined me that one of my 11B roommates on Okinawa was a licensed mortician in real life. Why wasn't he assigned to GR? He even grave-robbed a grave there and had a female skull in his locker. She had been shot. He showed me the entry and exit wound and the dehydrated sugar left lining the skull. I asked how he knew it was female and he showed me the bump on the base of our skulls that males have but females don't have. I've checked all the women I've been with, and it seems to be true. Was the "Needs of the Army" to make this creepy guy my roommate?

Was he right? I had several girlfriends after I got out of the Army and it was true for all of them, but I don't know about guys.

I actually had an in-country R&R at China Beach after 10 Months. Hook up in Da Nang, first time in a VN city. Got paranoid and evac the house, by jumping from the 3 floor balcony. Hit the bricks, rolled, only to see a cowboy on a moped head eyeing e, as he headed towards me I turned to run, then pivoted around and punched him in the chest. His movement on the bike and my leaning in knocked him to the pavement. It was like time stopped. I look around and see an MP Jeep, make the dash, jump in the back and tell them to head for the gates, by then 5 or 6 other cowboys are trailing us, I grab a rifle, but they had no ammo. They were not allow to carry in the city, they catch up just as we get inside the gates.

I loved that show. The needs of the Army clearly brought you to this place & time so you could get everyone trying to palpate a bump on their skull or verify its absence.
This is serious Force at play.

It seems to be there; never previously gave it a thought. It was interesting to reacquaint with a variety of other terrain features from when I got stomped briefly by some hooves as a pre-schooler.
