Actually, on our ranch in the '60s, my stepdad didn't have those.

Same here.

Around 62-63, I was spending a week at my cousin's. He was a farm vet and also raised and bred sheep.

One of the ewe went into labor, had a breach. Doc talked me thru going in with a rope, tying off on the legs, and pulling the lamb out.

Said I did good and next time I'd get to use the gloves...
