Turkey

Any long time member of this board who has been following developments in Turkey can see this is just another step for it's leader.

The showdown for control of Turkey’s military

http://www.aei.org/publication/the-s...ampaign=113016

"Much of the reason why so many diplomats and analysts got the trajectory of Turkey so wrong for so long is that they focused on the cosmetic over the substantive. They focused upon the debate about head scarves in schools and universities, but ignored changes to the make-up of the executive board of the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), even though it was the latter which allowed Prime Minister (and now President) Recep Tayyip Erdogan to target his opponents’ financial holdings and business interests...."

Yup. Thanks for that. He's been playing the long game with some thought. This willl be another Holy ! moment for the media (and many countries) when the overt act happens that signifies the hammer was getting cocked for awhile, by one or other.

The sad part about this is that, with a little research and staying abreast of what is going on in each country, it can be easily seen what the future outcome is going to be.
Our latest (and still current) State Department probably isn't aware of what's going on. If they are aware then they are most likely behind Erdogan's efforts since our country's current president is so into Muslim control all over the world. A simple look back at how much we condemned Erdogan's actions against the coup attempt. Not much, if any condemnation at all.
Piss poor handling by State (and Executive) officials in the last 8 years have allowed Muslim fundamentalists and communist/socialist to obtain control over land and countries the likes of which has not been seen since the late 70's and 80's.
Not sure how much of this we (the USA) can turn around. Trump is not Reagan as much as everyone wants to think that he is.
I don't think much of Turkey's military members. We had an officer and senior NCO in my Q Course class and they weren't all that for being Turkish Special Forces. Regardless, the country is still a strategic location in the world and they do have an abundance of forces.
It's kinda sad to see an ally slide by the wayside without any effort from us to keep them above board.
