* 1 chuck roast, 4 pounds
* 1 (16 ounce) jar pepperoncini peppers, with juice
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 275°F.
2. Place the meat in a roasting pan
3. Pour the peppers and juice over the roast.
4. Put it in the oven.
5. Go watch the football game or something.
6. When the meat can be pulled apart with a fork, it's done.

Thanks for definition. I know what a crock pot is. Unless one wants things falling off the bone, wants a sure way to cook a tough piece of meat tender, or just have food ready after 8 hours or so later, I do not have much use for one. I think they are great for bachelors, people on the go, busy folks, etc.

Re; Lazy.
I don't think so, as some recipes in crock pots are very unique. I recall the gals in the bar in Omaha used to take those red roasted peppers from a 28 oz can or so, and make an awesome sauce to put over sweet Italian sausage on rolls.

From a can? "oh the humanity"
I once did a roasted red pepper from a thousand yards, in high winds. No one could have roasted that red bell pepper like I did that day............

Now I know! You're the guy in the movie who told Danny Glover that his wife's cooking actually tasted like....
Edit: It is a just-above-freezing day here today, with persistent rain and all this talk of pot-likker==gravy, and swiss steak done in cast-iron... dang!
44 min till I assault the kitchen to manufacture one or all of these things and then curl up like a boa.

Oh, I was referring specifically to myself and the reasons why I love a slow cooker . I'm a single mom working full-time who isn't very domesticated to begin with (I'd rather cut the grass than cook anyday). I'm in love with anything in the kitchen that requires little effort or assembly...I feel the same way about my steamer. Until I find a houseboy, the slow cooker is it.
TS is going to stroke out over this thread. Perhaps I need to hit the farmers market and find some grain-fed beef to make him stop questioning humanity.

Here's one for the faux lushes:
4 whole boneless skinless chicken breasts
33 3/4 oz. Bloody Mary mix
Pour the mix over the chicken, cook for 8 hours on low .
and Apple Cider Stew:
1-2 lbs. beef or venison stew meat
8 carrots, sliced thin
6 potatoes, sliced thin
2 apples, chopped
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon thyme
2 Tablespoons minced onion
2 cups apple cider
Place carrots, potatoes, and apples in crock pot. Add meat and sprinkle with salt, thyme, and onion. Pour cider over meat and cover. Cook on low heat 10-12 hours. Thicken gravy.

slow cooker burritos
Here you go, K a recipe I've kind of adapted. Now I use low fat cheese, low fat sour cream and low carb tortillas.
Ingredients
1 garlic clove, minced
1 small red onion, chopped
14.5 oz canned diced tomatoes, with chiles (or dice your own!)
15 oz black beans, drained and rinsed
spices: chili powder, salt, dried oregano, fresh ground pepper, cumin, cayenne, red pepper flakes and whatever other spices you'd like to add to taste
1 pound skinless chicken breasts OR PORK OR MEAT (keep pieces whole so you can shred later)
3/4 cup chicken (or beef) broth
12 medium whole tortillas, about 7-inches in diameter each
3/4 cup(s) shredded Mexican-style cheese
Instructions
Place garlic, onion, tomatoes, beans and spices in a 3-quart slow cooker; stir well. Add chicken and broth. Cover and cook on low setting for 5 hours; drain off liquid (there should be about 6 cups of burrito mixture). Shred the pork, chicken or meat
Spoon about 1/2 cup of burrito mixture down center of each tortilla; top with 1 tablespoon of cheese and whatever else you like*. Fold bottom 1/3 of tortilla to center. Fold left side to center; fold right side to center, covering filling.
Serve with sour cream, fresh chopped cilantro, olives and anything else you may like.
