Turkish TV is showing some soldiers being led away in handcuffs by police. Elsewhere, there are reports that senior military officers have been taken hostage. All is not going well for the army.

I hope that not many lives are lost in the process but, Obummer owns this...

It ain't Bush's fault after seven years of the most f'd up foreign policy in the history of the US.

Where is John Kerry at this moment? (Barfing in a toilet?)

Kerry is in Moscow, sounding concerned.

I've heard Kremlin toilets are close to Japanese toilets they have a mouthwash sprayer build in.

Nice of the coup plotters to wait until Friday market closures.

Gives them 2 days to consolidate before Monday.

If still chaos then markets are going to hurt.

Surprised the Turkish PM is on TV.

Erdogan on FaceTime.

President Obama vocally supporting government.

And no Chief of Turkish Defense Force or service chiefs on TV.

Middle management coup?

Since Erdogan emasculated Turkish military reboot option a number of years ago.

Interesting.

This whole thing reminds me of Claus von Stauffenberg's failed coup in 1944 ("Valkyrie"). Right down to dramatic re-emergence of the targeted leader and failure to coordinate sufficiently between military departments.

another islamic shithole in conflict? Who cares?

Seriously who cares. Just send weapons and ammo to whatever islamic tribe wants them, you know same strategy we're currently applying to all islamic conflicts.

Who cares.

What we do need to do is stop taking muslims from islamic shit holes and bring them to the USA. Let them keep their own shitte.

Except Sweden, Sweden wishes to become extinct in the next hundred years and all reminiscent of their thousands year old culture destroyed by raping, looting, murdering muzzies and they're ok with that.

It appears to be mostly over. Erdogan said the coup plotters will be treated "harshly". This could spell the end of anti-Islamist senior military leadership. Let the purge begin.

According to CNN, U.S. aircraft currently cannot fly out of Incirlik to hit targets in Iraq and Syria (though Stars & Stripes says ops continue).

And a list of over 2,700 judges, high court judges and other high officials was produced and them sacked within 24 hours of the start of the coup attempt.

I think that list has been riding around in Erdogan's back pocket for a while.

Hmmm no leadership , no financiers, no logistics, no guerrilla force = failed Coup. There might be many hairy bowling balls rolling around Turkish prisons over the next few days.

... and that ~ Secretary of Labor Süleyman Soylu live on news channel Haberturk: "The US is behind this coup"

Isn't just before mid-night on a Friday an odd time to start a coup? Loads of civilians and tourists in the streets, Mosques have let out after pumping up the congregation, passenger aircraft still arriving at the airports. What could go wrong?

Zero three or zero four hours, every one is home snug in their beds and the only aircraft landing are freighters. Of the two choices, I'd pick the latter. But that's just me.
