DZ Renaming Ceremony For SSG Stephen New

DZ Renaming Ceremony for SSG Stephen New (KIA 07/28/2013 Afghanistan)

The DZ ceremony will be at DZ Shelby on Tuesday, 25 APR at 1000. The BN will hold its awards ceremony on 26 APR. The schedule for the DZ ceremony is as follows:

25 APR

0900 SFA Chapter 79 will meet at the Camp Shelby Armed Forces Museum, then carpool to DZ.

1000 2/20 Airborne Operations at DZ. Foreign partners will be jumping in this operation.

1100 DZ Renaming Ceremony
Foreign wing exchange ceremony
Presentation of knives to CPT Ty Davis and SSG Kane Childress

The father and sister of SSG New will be present for the ceremony. Mrs. New has chronic illnesses and sadly will not be able to attend. SFA 79 is helping to defray some of their travel expenses as well as purchasing the knives to be awarded to 2 recent SFQC grads. CPT Davis will be receiving a Spartan Harsey folder with the SFA crest and his SFA number etched on the handle. He already has a Yarborough. SSG Kane will be receiving a Yarborough.

CPT. Kandi Murphy, the Camp Shelby historian has been very instrumental in making this DZ ceremony happen. From what I understand, there will be local media and press. Please thank her for her work on this if you meet her.

Hope to see y’all there!

Semper Fi,

Rick

Photos include the father and sister of SSG New, LTC Vern Theis, CO 2/20 presenting a plaque to the family and myself at the podium. A beautiful day and a perfect way to christen a DZ with a jump! And what better way to memorialize a fallen Green Beret than with a DZ dedicated to his memory?
