Carl Meloche, Green Beret... NOT!!
We were sent Carl Meloche by a local who has had a number of dealings with him over the years. The person that reached out to us said he was somewhat of a loose cannon that claimed to be a Green Beret. He added that Carl gave him a Business card that read:
"Warning" I suffer from occasional loss of mental stability, and become very violent with only slight provocation. The Veteran's administration has determined that both mental and physical harassment of my person may be hazardous to your health and well being. So stay out of my face! Thank You
After a few emails, we were able to make contact with Carl. You can hear him in his own words here: 👉👉 Carl on the phone👈👈
We started looking into him and saw 3 articles online with his Special Forces claims about being in Vietnam and having made 1000s Jumps. In one of those articles, we saw him in an SFA sweatshirt. We made a call to both SFA Chapter 49 and SFA National. He was never a member Ch 49, nor any other SFA chapter for that matter. So we looked a little further. We checked Sherman's databases and he appeared in none of them. We searched the Green Beret Magazine that were published in country during that time, again, he wasn't mentioned.
So we did a records request and what Carl claims vs what are facts seem to differ considerably.
He claims he went to Vietnam in '63: False
He claims he went to Vietnam in '65: False
He claims he went to Vietnam in '68: False
He claims he went to Vietnam in '72: True
He claims he was one of 4000 men that volunteered for SF and was one of 6 selected: False
He claims his Drill instructor talked him into going Airborne: False, he never attempted Jump School.
He claims multiple tours as an Engineer and a Special Forces Team: False, he never attempted Special Forces Training Group.
Paratrooper with 1000 jumps: False, He was NEVER Airborne.
Was at Lang Vei Special Forces camp in '68 when it was over run: False, in 1968 he was stationed in Alaska.
Remained in Special Forces after Vietnam until he retired in '78: False, you can't remain in Special Forces if you were never in Special Forces to begin with.
Carl Meloche will now be added to guardiansofthegreenberet.com Hall of Zeroes
