Bull Reds

Hit up the lower Neuse River chasing bull reds on light tackle, 7' MH rods, 4000 size reels, 30 pound braid, DOA Popping corks and DOA Airheads. We left the ramp right after daybreak and headed out looking for menhaden schools moving about. First stop we saw a few light breaks of bait but seen loads on the fish finder scattered all about. First fish came a few minutes after we stopped.

We continued to fish along and pulled in this double. The guy to the left is a Marine stationed at Cherry Point that I fish with occasionally.

We ended the day with about 8 or nine of these beast caught. This is a catch and release fishery, but they sure give an awesome tug on the end of the line.

This was all day fishing and no night work. We didn't soak any bait this trip, only light tackle action with artificial lures.

Popping corks? Those fish on top water would be a hoot
