This is a great article on the emplyment and use of PMESII - ASCOPE within an Insurgency.

I would add that you should throw in PT into PMESII(PT) - ASCOPE. The Physical Enviroment is very important. Not just the Physical Terrain and how it affects people in a given area, but the Human terrian too. We (USSF) has seen this in OEF/OIF with the tribal terrain. That Physical Enviroment IMO ties into that.
The TIME factor - as the article reads.. Most populations, both friendly fand enemy forces, and the insurgent often view time differently. Most don't have watches or can even read or write their own native lanaguage(s). How do locals tell time??
Going old school at time can really help you in the INTEL world IMNSHO. All these computers are great, but if you can do a simple overlay on some PVC sheeting then how can you tell guys on your ODA let alone a "local".
Getting PMESII - ASCOPE printed into a butcher-block size chart to fill in for all to see and use!!
Then follow it up with D3A and F3EAD processes. So love it, most hate it like MDMP.
