Rapid City, South Dakota
Taking a shot in the dark here ... Is there anyone in or near Rapid City, SD?
May have a nice job opportunity there in about a month or so (mid October), depending on if the bid comes through ... and am looking at relocating there.
Or course looking for Rentals, best areas to live, etc.
Any info would be appreciated.

Don't live there but have visited and really like that location!! You could do a lot worse. Also Black Hills Ammo is there - Jeff Hoffman is a GREAT American and gave my kids more freaking swag than they could carry when we visited.

Might not want to locate along the river or other low lying areas. Initially I was thinking about Fargo and a more recent event however the Rapid City Flood was even more devastating. Probably not that relevant with updated zoning but to quote an old soldier “ you don’t know what you don’t know”.

There's towns closer to the Black Hills and in higher ground just 15-20 minutes out of RC. We camped there for a month some years back and had an absolute ball. There was a favorite pasta place for the kids in RC and it seems like we'd hit hat every other day. It was only a 20 minute drive from the hills into RC. It would/is on my short list to retire/retire....if I can convince HH6 that the winters really aren't "too bad."

That's where I am right now ... the other side of the state ... Sioux Falls, working a FEMA security gig.
Thanks for playing ..,. there'll be some nice parting gifts for you on your way out.

I've passed through the area several times (Wall, Deadwood, Sturgis, etc.) and really liked that area.
Hopefully, of this contract comes through, I'll be able to establish a safe house for any weary travelers and their HH6's.

I've explored the Rapid City area for relocation. Have a realtor on tap should I decide.
SD property tax is a consideration - the counties are tied to the tourist or gaming economy. When they flourish, the taxes are low and visa-versa.
Sundance, WY is 79 miles by Interstate and Beluah, WY is 57. Ellsworth AFB is growing and has a Class 4 Commissary crammed into a Class 3 space (Class 1 is the largest).
The WY border has small towns with more tax and political advantages that SD does not always have. These towns have Black hills forests, plains, and hills and property is quite available and affordable.
55 miles in the other direction is Gillette, WY which is a former energy boom town (FJB) that has most of the offerings that Rapid City has. I have a realtor there too.
But the wind. Yes it is windy as heck there (and in Rapid City) because Wash DC SUCKS!

Well, looks like Rapid City is going to be the place.
Found a pretty good rental, 2br 1ba for the same amount I was paying in ABQ. Landlord is military, so we sort of hit it off.
Reached out to the company that got the security contract, which was just announced yesterday, and they're interested in bringing me on. The contract starts Nov. 1st, so I should be in a good position to hit the ground running when it starts.
Now with that being said, there will now be a safe house established in Rapid City SD.
Looking forward to this. Be nice to be out of a Blue State, and into a Free and Open State.
