Most of Africa is part of the area of responsibility of the U.S. European Command. Several African countries, however, are included in U.S. Central Command's AOR, and a few island states of the Indian Ocean, though conventionally included with Africa, are in U.S. Pacific Command's AOR.
The Africa AOR includes the following countries:

The region also includes the Western Sahara, currently controlled by Morocco. Western Sahara's legal status remains unresolved.
Included under "
Asia" as they fall under PACOM's AOR are the Comoros, Madagascar and Mauritius. All are Indian Ocean states, but are members of the African Union.
The African countries included under "
Middle East" as they fall under CENTCOM's AOR are Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and The Sudan. The Indian Ocean state of The Seychelles is also included there.
