Green Berets in Mozambique

There have been reports that a Green Beret contingent has arrived in Northern Mozambique to help in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists who have invaded the country from the north. The Boko Haram terrorists have attacked civilians and murdered hundreds in the Cabo Dek Gado district, A recent attack had them beheading many villagers including many young children,
The Mozambican army is almost useless and a mercenary force, led by Col Lionel Dyke, the ex CO of the RAR in Rhodesia later Zimbabwe is not making much headway against Boko Haram, due mainly to a lack of resources.

It has some lessons learned from Boko Haram but it is not Boko Haram, It is a new Extremist Group.

("Al Sunnah wa Jama’ah") is Arabic for “people of the Sunnah community”. The group is also known as the Mozambique Al-Shabaab (The Youth), even though it has no connections with the Somali movement of the same name.

It is estimated that the movement now has between about 350 and 1,500 members who are organized in tens of small cells along the coast of Northern Mozambique.

I seem to recall Eeben Barlow discussing the situation in Mozambique and if I remember correctly he had presented a strategy and support package to the government but they were not interested because they thought it cost too much and instead were going to hold out until someone like the US/Russia/China offered them some "free" help. Which he rightfully pointed out was never truly free because there are always strings attached. He also discussed the disastrous Wagner Group deployment in to Mozambique which he blamed on not really understanding the African social/political/tribal/cultural environment.

Moz news

There has been a terrible massacre in N Mozambique over the weekend. A dirt road with scattered limbs, torsos and heads has briefly been shown on social media in South Africa. The DAG contract ends 2 April and will not be renewed apparently.
