"As expected, the accumulated anger and dissatisfaction of Iranians, whose patience with the current economic and political conditions has come to an end and had manifested itself in recent months, first in the form of widespread strikes and protest rallies and now in the shape of public uprisings in cities of Khuzestan.

The people of Khuzestan province, in addition to facing skyrocketing prices, unemployment and the coronavirus pandemic are suffering from power and water outages in the scorching heat of this region, where the temperature is above 120 degrees......."

I've been following on AlJazeera and BBC

Interesting response from Khamenei here..

Quote:
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said Iranians protesting over water shortages in the country’s drought-hit southwest cannot be blamed, and called on officials to deal with the crisis, according to state media.

“The people showed their displeasure … but we cannot really blame the people and their issues must be taken care of,” Khamenei was quoted on Friday by Iranian news agencies as saying, in his first direct mention of the weeklong protests.
Twist the blame toward the West and the status quo is maintained. The election results going more conservative and not less I think is telling

Thanks for that. I was not aware of the region-specific situation.

And this is not going to help maters. Some details that have been known but not widely reported because of - well, you know, - the way the press is in the left's pocket.

Inauguration of Ebrahim Raisi as the New President of Iran

https://townhall.com/columnists/cyru...-iran-n2593378

"August 3 is the day of the inauguration of Ebrahim Raisi as the new president of Iran. On the behest of Khamenei, Raisi was appointed as president of Iran on June 18 in a sham election that was widely boycotted by most Iranians. But more controversial than this appointment is his role in the 1988 massacre of political prisoners.

At the time, he, who was Tehran's deputy prosecutor, was commissioned by Ruhollah Khomeini, along with several others, to manage the situation of political prisoners and eliminate anyone who disagreed with Khomeini. ....."
