A safe celebration to all of you here in the United States
We've managed to eke out another year, defying the odds.
I'm honestly surprised that we still celebrate a moment when the people determined that they just had enough of government.
As I listen to the echo of fireworks down the valley...I can't help but consider the historical context of the day.
For those that care a timeline is provided. Realistically, in the course of events it wasn't much of a day.... But never let history get in the way of a good party.
Be safe
War breaks out with England in April 1775.
The Continental Congress votes to accept the Declaration of Independence on July 2, 1776
The Continental Congress formally "adopts" the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776
Members of the Continental Congress affix their signatures to an enlarged copy of the Declaration of Independence on August 2, 1776
R10
Go have a party

This is a day to celebrate our literacy….. we wrote how we were free…… but really, 19 April is the holiday that needs to be celebrated…….. what will be our next “Lexington and Concord” is the next date of importance…… same as it ever was… all Republics last +- 240 years…… we’re at the end of this one and it’s time to see if the Founders put enough into the skeleton of this one to see if has the ass to grow another body….. we will see….

One of the things noteworthy is that conflict had been going for over a year, since (now) Patriot's Day April 1775. And the day before the signing is when Washington was designated as the Commander of the Continental Army.
The spits & spurts of the current grumblings are, thus far, nothing as articulate as the previous declaration of the 'why' to the world - which it was felt needed to be done for both posterity's sake and to respect the opinions of other countries.
Meanwhile, the empty nesters here are going to grill a couple of ribeyes*, and then sit on the front deck watching the FD and Chamber do their thing from the fairgrounds down the road, 484m away. Small victories as neighbor families teach another generation of their kids about sparklers and bottle rockets, the latter being an important martial implement. (Likely many here have staged some epic bottle rocket battles).
* The grilling menu effort here was purposely designed to cost more than $.16 over last year's, per person. Because #OrangeGirlBad® and BFYTW. Full disclosure: The tomatoes were more expensive because of patronizing a local grower at the Farmer's Market. They actually taste like a tomato.

Let’s keep the experiment alive, 245 years and going…the Declaration of Independence, perhaps the most important document ever created by man.
Happy 4th of July, everyone!
Celebrate wisely.

The Republic has survived another year . . . barely. The ties that bind the nation are mightily worn.
