Interesting article on Astan...

Having spent two years of my life on the border between the contemporary Uzbekistan and Afghanistan as a Soviet Army conscript medic many years ago, my take on the Western withdrawal from this sad place is quite different from what might be called the op-ed page consensus.

Astan & the Taliban:

Interesting Article, I agree, However, the source is what I find ambiguous. A former Soviet- Medic conscript. The author may be located in Langley, VA. and not Australia. The sentence structure and terminology have a familiar tone...

Good read. Thanks. Of course it also has the requisite quote from Kipling in the reader's comments too.

Finest Kind find!

Oh, and Tom Kelly, very astute observation on your part too. I thought I was reading the preamble to an area studies piece. So, how long before teams deploy alongside Taliban counter-parts into Uyghur province of China? Looks like Free Pineland v Occupied Pineland to me.
