LTC Will Irwin's The Jedburghs.
Essential to the library.

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein.

If you are a dog lover, this book is for you...this is not a child's book. Enzo is a philosopher with a nearly human soul and an obsession with opposable thumbs (and car racing!).

On the eve of his death Enzo takes stock of his life...this is his story and that of his human family.

This book is hilarious and heart wrenching in parts, in general it is uplifting and an all around great read.

The Forever War by Joe Haldeman

Very good so far, amazingly technical considering it was written in the 70's.

After reading Get Selected by Major Martin I've started reading some of the books that he recommends as additional reading.

I just finished In The Company Of Heroes by CW4 Michael Durant, the pilot who was a POW in Somalia during Black Hawk Down. Besides recounting his experiences in Mogadishu it also gives the reader a glimpse into life in the 160th and how he developed from an 18 year old enlisted soldier into the pilot he is today. This book demonstrated the strength, courage, cunning, and resolve of US SOF in a way that I honestly wasn't expecting.

The next book that I'm about to begin reading is On Killing: The Psychological Cost Of Learning To Kill In War And Society by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman.

I'm currently listening to this - fascinating. Getting a real history lesson on Germany 1933-38.

You should follow that with The Godfather by Mario Puzo. Under appreciated as a book on strategy.

I'm onto 3 quite obscure books, unfortunately not available in Ebook format:

SAS(Rhodesia): The Men Speak, by Jonathan Pittaway

Selous Scouts: The Men Speak, by Jonathan Pittaway

One Thousand Days with Sirius, The Greenland Sledge Patrol, by Peter Schmidt Mikkelsen

-----

The two Pittaway books are the best references I've found yet on Rhodie SAS and Selous Scouts formation, assessment, training, and operations.....bar none.

The Sirius Patrol book is the only dedicated reference in English I have found regarding this little known Danish specialist unit. These guys operate in pairs with their dog teams for up to 26 uninterrupted months of continuous patrol operations in very remote regions of Greenland.

It reads like the closest thing to operating on another planet I've found yet.

Being a fan of learning about assessment and selection programs around the world, Sirius Patrol sounds like an assessment/selection cross between astronaut and SF.

All 3 highly recommended.

Jonathan Pittaway writes his books as a labor of love. He sold his accounting business for a lot of money and decided to spend a fair bit of it recording the Southern African military stories that, with the transition to majority rule, would have been lost or drowned by leftist propaganda. His books are top quality, not only from the writing excellence, but in the paper quality and graphic design used in putting them together. Good fellow all round.

Unfortunately, the downside is that the Pittaway books are QUITE expensive(low volume, very large & high quality print with large numbers of previously unpublished personal photos) and quite hard to find.

The good news is the Sirius Patrol book is available for a reasonable price online.

Just finished Confessions of an Advertising Man by David Ogilvy. Found it to be a fascinating book - one that will become a constant reference in my current assignment of political activist.
