Iran becomes UN disarmament leader

Believe it or not: Iran becomes UN disarmament leader WTF!!!!

United Nations Commission on Disarmament on Tuesday elected Iran as deputy for Asian nations.
Quote:
In other business, the following delegations were elected as Vice-chairpersons, by acclamation: Chile, Uruguay and Iran. Coly Seck of Senegal was elected to serve as Rapporteur. Both the Commission Chairman and the Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs urged the speedy election of the Chairperson of Working Group I on the nuclear weapons-related item, so that deliberations could begin on Wednesday, 12 April, following the general debate.
Throw out UN members who are not democratically elected, and give Iran a seat on the UN Disarmament Commission is like giving Sudan, Syria, Libya and/or Cuba a seat on the UN Human Rights Council. Lets just elect every State sponsored Terrorism to more key UN Seats. Wait that already is happening or happen.
Quote:
On April 10th the UN Disarmament Commission elected Iran as one of its Vice-Chairpersons.

Afterwards, the UN's Under Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs, Nobuaki Tanaka, said the Commission "played a unique role" with "the advantage of being a fully universal deliberative body." This is the UN fiction which brings us closer to nuclear war with each passing day. The allusion is to universal democracy, though the majority of voters are non-democratic and include thugs, racists and war-mongers. (4/14/2006) By Anne Bayefsky
Can the UN ever get it right? NO!! The chickens taking care of its own?? Gee why did the US push for action in Iraq!!
OMG!

I hope to not appear rude but could it be that the UN is using this position to make Iran appear as an important influence inside the international community and this may help Iran come to the realization that it can be a contributing member of the UN and thus work closer with the UN to better Iran's situation in the middle east. This nomination to Vice-Chair a committee on the one subject at which they are at odds may help Iran and the UN come to a peaceful resolution on the matter of Irans insistance to develop nuclear weapons.

Why should the UN make Iran look more important? IMHO that plan will lead to greater destabilization in the region and world. We do not need to give them sweet jobs with great Per Diem. We need unilateral condemnation and pressure on Iran to acquiesces to the demands of the free and sane world.

Then again, I am not sure anyone, except some "black helicopter" types are afraid of the UN, so it is kind of moot.

Your post was not rude, but it did reflect a serious lack of knowledge about international affairs.

You might want to check out the book reviews and suggested reading lists before venturing an opinion here again.

You might also check out Machiavelli's "The Prince".

Have a very SF day.

Using your logic.........it would be appropriate for the Federal Reserve Board to fill a vacant seat with a Mafioso. Appoint Charles Manson to the California Parole Board. Or appoint Janet Reno as the United States Attorney General.
