The Rest Of The State's Green Berets Are Home
Jeb Phillips, Columbus Dispatch, 7 Aug 2009

The second half of the state's only Green Beret company is finally home.

About 35 members of the Ohio Army National Guard's Company B, 2nd Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) arrived at the Groveport Recreation Center just before 1 p.m. yesterday. The first wave of the Rickenbacker Air National Guard-based company returned last week.

The unit left Ohio in September, spent time in Indiana and Nevada, then arrived in Afghanistan in January. Its job was to train Afghan forces and accompany them on patrols, Guard officials said.

The company split up into five teams throughout eastern and southern Afghanistan. The soldiers completed 274 patrols and were involved in direct combat 27 times.

This was the company's fourth deployment since 2001, making it the most-deployed Ohio Army National Guard unit in the war on terrorism.
