Question Question for the SOG veterans.

Gentlemen,
I read in books (like John Plasters´) about the use of the OLYMPUS-PEN EES-2 camera.
Was it used on a large scale by SOG RT´s, and what whas so special about it?
Also, what type of film was used?
Does any of you have any stories to contribute about its use in the field?
Here in Belgium this type of camera is available on a large scale here though I assume film for it would be hard to get.
As someone highly interested in everything SOG I would love to hear more about this item.
Thank you,

Chris.

Mr Pete,
thanks for that link.
It is informative though difficult to understand sometimes (I am Belgian, not US)
I assume most PEN-EE models were used by SOG then seeing the timeframes during which they were produced?

These are 1/2 Frame cameras and we "Loaded" our own film Magazines with Tri-X 400 ASA B&W Film. We could get 75-100+ pictures from one roll of film. They were small, rugged, quiet, simple to operate (the Yards could use them!!) and were not from the USA. The resolution, even out of the 400, was good enough to enlarge to 8.5X11.

We used full frame 35mms with good glass on them on our Pre-mission Photo Recce Flights!!

These were also another item that Ben Baker scrounged for us.

Pentax 35mm full frame, Niconus 35mm full frame waterproof cameras and the Penn EE S2's......

A few were reported as lost, but I think they went home with a few of the folks....

Who took home any of the Casio watches??????

If you look in Plaster's Photo History of SOG, there is a whole section on Ben plus other areas where he is credited. Everything from wrist compasses, Bananna Knives, Indig Rations, Dutch Mini-grenades...............!! Anything that we could dream up and justify, he'd find it or have it made. He had an inside track for "Experimental" Weapons/Devices. The CAR-15's designation was XM177E2 because when we fielded it, it was an Experimental Model.
The "negative" image for Chapter 8 is one of my pictures/inventions.
