Baja Pheasant

Went Pheasant hunting in Mexicali, Baja California. Lots of birds, i am getting old so I was a blocker at the end of each field but I still got my birds... FWIW, Mexicali has some of the finest Chinese restaurants I have ever eaten in...

Looks like a great hunt. I didn't even know there were pheasants in Mexico.

From your POV, what did the security situation look like? Current DoS guidance is "reconsider travel" to Baja California state due to crime and kidnapping. Source is here: https://travel.state.gov/content/tra...a%20California

And of course we need to know about the shotgun and load used to bring down those Chinese transplants.

I didn't see any problems. Mexicali is the capitol of Baja California so it is fairly civilized and generally peaceful. We hunted out in the farm fields of corn, alfalfa, milo
and silage with no issues. The farmers were very kind so we gave them a few birds for their dinner. We were checked by the Guardia Nacional. Our outfitter had all the paperwork in order so it was all smiles and gracias por su cooperacion. The Chinese railroad workers brought the pheasants with them from Asia...

Nice birds.

No complications taking firearms across?

Wonder how those farmers prepare them. Pheasant a la Mexicana? Pheasant Baja? Pheasant enchiladas?

Mojaveman- We used the outfitter's shotguns and ammo, included in the price. I used an 870, he also had O/U's available. It costs $400.00 to bring your own and the process takes about 3 weeks...

Can you post the name of the outfitter/website and cost of the hunt?
