A lot of them "white flash" guys had more combat time than Audie Murphy and John Wayne put together.
In 1967 they did a lot to help this young troop to learn to pay attention.
I met up with a number of them on the ground in RVN later.
Most had previous tours there or Korea.
A couple had WW2 time.
A few I knew personally ended up MIA or KIA.

Exactly. Most of our instructors in SFTG were there a minimum amount of time between overseas tours or physically healing from wounds/injuries before returning to the fray. I learned a lot just listening to them talk among themselves. Guys like Bear Martin, 'Big O' Olivares, Bob Scully, John Walton, Richmond Nail, and Carlos Parker were true mentors to us youngsters.

Exactly Mike! That's why they adopted that motto!
oh....The "Duke" never served a day, outside of the theaters, and Murphy....great soldier, lousy actor!.....but I get the gist of what you're saying!

I remember hearing this one a long time ago...
The three rules to being in SF are:
1) Always know where you are.
2) Always look cool.
3) If you don't know where you are, at least look cool.

1 ALWAYS LOOK COOL.
2 ALWAYS KNOW WHERE YOUR AT.
3 IF YOU DONT KNOW WHERE YOUR AT, ALWAYS LOOK COOL"

It goes "No sh*t, there I was......."
But then again I've heard that saying millions of times in a regular line platoon, along with over hearing occasional pougs using that too, so its not really an SF motto but more of a generic military motto

Use "P" for "Plenty".
Of course that's usually followed by the one above.

From down South:
"Somos pocos pero locos."
and from a sign in front of one of the 3d Gp buildings at Bragg:
"Pursue, Pressure, Punish."
Pretty well sums it up.
