Why is the serial number covered up? Is it stolen or does the owner not want anyone to know he is selling the knife?

That's possible. The pawn shops have learned to be as discrete as possible to avoid getting LEOs involved.

Not sure in this case. The detail of the sheath seems like a personalized story and the owner may not want Uncle aware.

It says the ebay seller is a consignment shop

There are reasons or excuses about good, bad or indifferent actions, but, The I D of the owner of this "For Sale" Yarborough Knife should explain the circumstances... for selling a piece of issued equipment. Exceptions, there are always exceptions, the original recipient of the Yarborough Knife is deceased and the person in possession of the knife has no requirement or duty to keep it or dispose of it....unless it is Stolen Property....

If the original recipient of this knife is the seller, he may be embarrassed to have fallen on hard times and not want to reveal his identity. I would think that everyone that has received one of these knives knows of this forum and that selling one of these knives will be discovered, posted here and dissected for all to see.
