John: Personally I would advise you to finish school. In 1963 I was 23 years old and had completed 3 1/2 years of college when I enlisted with the intention of finishing school in the service. I got my degree in 1989.
Part of the problem is your major. I was a chem major and most of what I learned became obsolete rapidly making many of my classes invalid. Math is similar. They teach things in grammer school I learned in college. There are many roads in the military, including SF which require college.
Just my .02. I ain't your Dad and am really not familiar with your particular situation.
OTOH I slamed a poster on another board who flaunted education. I told her the most dangerous person in the world is an educated idjit. In my day in the army we called them "Smart College F**ks".

"Don't be shy Tony, just speak your mind."
Jack thank you and all for the welcome. It's never a good idea or intention to get off on the wrong foot. I apologize if that's the way I appeared. Wasn't intentional and I never hold a grudge with those I respect and point me in a different direction. I always like to learn and become more productive from those that have the knowledge and are willing to pass it on. Even at my ripe old age I screw up at times. Muchos Graciaous. I look forward to a learning of wisdom from those I consider mentors to us all.
Happy Holidays and the best to all.

Hopeful: Let me give an answer here since you are here now. I hear several wuestions of this type, Rather than ask advice from others, take the test and see what the results are. I was told I would never qualify for SCUBA training and I not only was accepted to and passed the training but was a UWO instructor in Panama and Thailand. It is IMO never a waste of time to try!! If you don't try you certainly won't quqlify, so if you try and are not accepted you will have lost nothing, OTOH you may be pleasantly surprised.

Thank you boss. Not trying to be a pain in the tushy for ya'll, only trying to get an opinion from any SF operatives in here. Jumping in here like gang bangers was not the best SOP, again, sorry for that. Thanks for your reply, it is appreciated, and I will still try when I get out of College. I will keep my mouth shut and just suck in what I can from here. I am sure my stay here will be pleasant, enjoyable, and enlightening and thank you all for allowing me to be a guest here.
Respectfully,
Tyler Consugar

Good Morning Gentlemen
My name is Victor Zayas, and I am a just getting my feet wet by posting my initial greeting. I've been in the National Guard since 3/03 and wow what a ride. Being an ex-Navy sub guy, I never would have thought I would have my boots on the ground in a foreign country, and not be looking for the nearest bar. I wet to 11B MOSQ in June 2003, and was activated in October of 2003 with 2-162 INF . 18 months later I was demobilizing in Ft. Lewis, WA. The funny thing is I'm a desk jockey. I joined the Guard to break up the daily drudge of office work, and not to patrol the streets of Baghdad. But I must admit, once I got the hang of this Army life, it was a blast. I wouldn’t have traded the experience for anything. While in this lovely country of Iraq, I did meet some of your fellow SF comrades doing what they do. I even got to kick in a door or two. No fancy movie stuff, we just happened to be patrolling our sector while they were moving through it, and that's when the shooting began. That was fun. Before I go I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. If you have friends and colleagues oversees I wish them well, and toast to the all returning home safe. To all the young men joining the Army, good luck, watch out for your buddies, and listen to people who have had the experience of combat. Learn, learn, learn... otherwise have a good time.
Best Regards
Victor Zayas

Holy smokes. I took Isshinryu for 5 years. This is the first time I have run across someone else who has taken it.

All Criticism Accepted
QRQ 30,
It's good to hear from someone with some experience in a similar situation (especially a similar field). Sometimes I don't feel like it helps me the more I explore my decision, but I'd be a lesser man if I didn't. I'll certainly try to make the best of my situation.
Oh, and whatever path I choose, I'll try not to end up like them "Smart College F**ks",
JMI,
My recent martial arts experience has been one of the greatest things to happen to me. I really feel like I belong among skilled fighters. I first started this class thinking I would walk through it like I have others, but it's been quiet challenging, and I see that I am only at the begining of learning. There are always those people who are all talk, or mostly talk. But I have found a real gem. This has been a great class. I am going to miss my fellow classmates and instructors very much.

Hello... well, some of you may know me a bit.
Piotr aka Piter (aka PiterM on most knife related forums). My wife says that knives define my second life. Well, obviously she's mistaken. It's my first life
Below a pic of myself (in the middle of course ) with some of my best friends I've ever met...

Do come back more often.
Take care.
