Good for you! Keep strong, one day at a time. Best to you and your beautiful granddaughter, she is a great inspiration no doubt.

A great day hanging out with friends. Did the monthly "redneck match" with adjustments for physical constraints (first opportunity to get out and relax since throwing my back out). 1. Firing line towards targets. 2. 500M target line towards firing line. 3. 500M target (might have to try again next month with one of the bolt guns ).

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

Took my 11 year-old out shooting while in Colorado on Friday.
He blazed away with my AR, my friends .45, and a few other guns.
Zeroed my Robar with a commercial load.
It grouped 1.25 inches @ 255 yards from the trunk of my car; it's probably not worth handloading until my shooting skills catch up to the gun.
The 11 year-old decided he'd try to hit the makeshift target stand (a 3ft square piece of plywood) from 255 yards with his grandpa's Walther P22.
My friend and I chuckled.
After 10 shots, we weren't chuckling.
He hit it 5 times.

My thought of the day: My personal life has gone to shit in the past two years, but in a moment of clarity on the john: I love my life, I at least know where I am going with it now, homing for now, will track to the target later.
That, and also the fact that I love my job!

From 185 entries, #1 grand-daughter (age 11.97 yrs), won the Patriot's Pen essay competition. She was honored to read her essay at the VFW event on Veteran's Day at a re-dedication ceremony to a memorial in front of the county courthouse, just prior to the 1100 firing of the 21-gun salute, followed by Taps.
Dumbing down of American youth? Well, at least one mustard seed * in the weed-field.
Yes, 'papa' be proud.
*Largely home-schooled, though.

When I moved back in June I thought I lost an award that is very precious to me because I received it from the Natl Guard Troop that I volunteer with. I tore my place apart for a month. I knew I didn't throw it away because I had to break down every box and fold the packing paper to dispose of it But...I couldn't find it and it was weighing heavy on me for months.
Found it today...had to put something in my "bug out" bag and there it was!

I'm leaving 30 degree weather with snow on the ground for 60 degrees and sunny in San Diego for a 4 day conference over the weekend.

White breast turkey tetrazini in a sherry wine sauce with crimini mushrooms over a slice of olive oil and garlic toasted Califfornia sourdough bread with a glass of chilled Bogle 2010 Chardonnay - life is, indeed, good! Prost!

Got a long-term (4 months) archaeology dig job. Ahhhh....the joy of doing "science in the dirt" again! Only problem is doing it in mid-winter...can't stand the cold, but enjoy working with the younger generation and imparting knowledge from a senior FOG archaeologist.
