Amazon has said it wants to hire 100,000 warehouse & delivery. So that's where the food service people will go. Much better pay too.

Having worked at Amazon in the early days, a ratio that has existed for the 25 year history of the company is that for every 1 FTE hired by Amazon there has been roughly 3 FTE lost on Main Street.

An empirical-ish ratio that has lasted nearly 25 years.

Doesn’t mean Amazon shouldn’t grow, but there is a disconnect with disruptive companies destroying jobs faster than new ones are being created or The unemployed are being retrained.

So Amazon might be able to absorb 1/3, the other 2/3 will need a plan B.

Lambda School(online live software engineering course) is actually turning student debt burdened baristas into software developers with 4X income increases.

Impact of closing is simple, everyone gets hurt. We will take care of our staff financially and with sharing our inventory.

That said, I'm content that we have closed before being ordered to do so. Staying open presents risks that are not worth the return on reputation. imho
Thanks for the insight Penn. I wish you the best through this.

I just found out that they are limiting our workforce in my location. It will be me and 2 other co-workers in our area who will have to report to work unless we hear otherwise. Looks like I'm in charge, I get to "hold down the fort"...LOL..My boss and the "higher" ups are going to be working from home. It's definitely going to be a "ghost town" for the next few weeks. Best thing about this, no traffic.....be safe out there and make sure you have a good stiff drink or two and yep, we will all pull through just nicely.

Was wondering about the self life of my # 10 cans of Mountain House foods for the Bird Flu dust up.

Checked - 30 years. So all you who stock piled back then and kept it in a good location are GTG.

Just heard that a contractor that was in the HQ office last Thursday has tested positive. Organization is now trying to retrace path and determine who else came in contact with that individual.

Interesting times

#1 son is an instructor at the nearby base I retired from in some advanced networking stuff. Original class for this week had 20 drops (I thought they should've had 100% drops due to travel ban). He still had 12 show up; from all over CONUS including east coast. He's nervous as shit; what happens when some commanders just decide "no matter what, this is 'Mission Essential' (so I make sure to get my dollars next year)."

Incredible.

My wife's friend walked across the MX border yesterday and was stopped by Mexican border agents, had her temp taken. They then had her disinfect her hands while they supervised before they would let her continue. Coming back . . . nothing. She asked the Customs guy why. He said that they're not authorized to. They couldn't even put out their own container of Purell.

I’ve been dragged back in along with the other fossils. We use Webex/Zoom teleconferencing and yesterday/today have had major issues. It’s not just the internet overall, the conferencing sites are getting hammered.

Google “in vivo self-replicating mRNA vaccine” if we're gonna have a savior, that's it. Either that or zombies. There’s no animal testing, we're going straight from the test tube to humans.

If you think toilet paper was a debacle, imagine vaccine distribution with initial limited quantities. Still a year away, though.

Wanted to order some dishwashing liqud on Amazon. Available, but delivery times 2-3 weeks, by which time I wonder if the supply chain transportation might be broken down.

Might be time to join Prime.

Were SARS & MERS also "zero immunity?" Were they "contained" & if so, why - geography low population density, or what?

~4:20AM NBC news wonk says implied growth rate is 30% per day. So in 12 days, 104,000 cases if not reduced.
