For you younger dudes

Euro trip is pretty good movie, but "Scotty Doesn't Know" was added to my download list immediately after seeing it.. "It's a three way call, and scotty doesn't know"

Impossible not to speed to these songs, for you younger folks out there:

1. The Cardigans- My Favourite Game
2. Linkin Park- Faint
3. Garbage- Push it
4. Nickelback- Too bad
5. The Queens of the Stone Age- Go with the Flow

With the exception of a very few, if I were to walk up to your car and you were playing some of that music mentioned, you'd come out at gunpoint!

Where in the world do you guys come up with this music? Whatever happened to the peaceful songs like: "Sugar, Sugar" By the Archies or "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin" By Crazy Elephant? Or my favorite "There coming to take me away Ha Ha" By Napoleon XIV.

You ask what good cop would get out of his cruiser in inclement weather? Me, for one, though not as often as in my younger days.

Best way to get out of ticket from me, well, be a young mother with your 1-3 year old in the backseat crying out "Please don't take my mommy to jail!" Works everytime for me. I hold a special place in my heart for children, guess I've seen too many hurt.

Peaceful music? How about Brittany Spears...oh!, oh!, how about Barney? Something about going balls to the wall down the highway and listening to Hanson doesn't seem right. But if you want a peaceful song look online for a song called "Timelessness" by Fear Factory. Very mellow. If you listen to anything else by Fear Factory make sure you turn down your hearing aids. Loud Stuff.

Some of the tunes already mentioned and

Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers - ZZ Top
Most Joe Satriani
Hwy 61 Revisited from the Johnny Winter Captured Live album
The Trooper - Iron Maiden
1 step klosr- Linkin Park
OD'ed on Life and Tattoo Vampire - Blue Oyster Cult

Lots more but these come to mind. Like Doc my job requires a spotless record so I maintain pretty close to the speed limit. One ticket won't hurt but I'd as soon not get the first one.

lately, I have been listening to The Distillers.

I have not been driving, though...no need to drive in Bangkok...I either take a moto, or a taxi, the Sky Train, or the Underground.

I am not among those techno-literati who can bop around with iPod earplugs in all the time.

Back in the summer of 1996, I was fresh out of b-school, with a brand new job lined up in Charlotte. One week before starting work, I met my future wife in DC. I spent the next year or so driving back almost every weekend to DC. There's a stretch of I-85 between Petersburg, VA and the NC border that is straight, level and deserted. The highway is bordered and divided on both sides by tall trees, making it feel like you are driving in a tunnel. It was rarely patrolled by the Commonwealth's finest, thus it was an easy 80-85mph cruise for me. I recall numerous times just hitting track repeat on "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits as soon as I hit that stretch. There's something mesmerizing about Knopfler on guitar - or maybe it was the tobacco and coffee.

During that time driving the same roads all I got was one warning for 71 in a 65, just before Greensboro. It was a late, rainy, Sunday night, and I saw the trooper ahead at the side of the road. I thought I was OK, so I maintained speed, just to see the bright lights in my rear-view mirror as soon as I passed him. I spent so much time on the road I swear I could identify the make and model of car based on the headlights in the rear-view mirror. Of course, the only cars that mattered were Crown Vics and Impalas.

We recently made the drive again to check out some furniture in High Point. I told my wife I must've been insane to do that every weekend back then.

Some other songs that worked for me on those trips:

"Mr. Jones" by Counting Crows
"Vivo Per Lei" by Andrea Bocelli with Georgia
Gipsy Kings' Tierra Gitana, almost every song on that album

Edit 6) Foo Fighters - Everlong

I believe our resident chopper pilot and possible extra in "Appocolypse Now" hit it: The Ride of the Wakkyries!

I remember in the sixties the 10th SFGA surgeon gave a presentation to the Group on payday. The Title was "How to save thousands of dollars on stereo equipment"

The subject was wearing the newly required ear protection in specified areas. I was actually a bunch of crap since I now enjoy my VA supplied bionic ears!

In 2000 I bought the wife a 35th Anniversary Mustang GT. As part of the "promo package" it had a 5-CD collection of "music to speed by" compiled by Ford from all of the eras of the Mustang. Talk about an evil plot. If I remember correctly, most of the artists are on everybody's "hits" list. Needless to say when we traded the Mustang we kept the music (though it doesn't have the same impact in her VW Bug - and I haven't seen/heard them in a while). Seeing this thread get revived reminded me I need to swipe them from her and put them in my truck at least so I can remember what's on them. Peregrino

Let me add that the VW bug being discussed is a diesel.

More like "music to watch the Amish pass me by".
