I try not too post in this section very often due to the fact that I do not feel my words come together succinctly enough to describe the gratitude I feel is owed to men like him, and you all for what you sacrifice to make this nation the great place that it is. Joe's post summed up the sorrow I feel when men like Chief Mullen give the ultimate sacrifice to defend a nation that could care less anymore. It's the family, friends, and teammates that feel this the most, and my condolences are out for all of you. Rest well now Sir, and know my thoughts and prayers are with you and those whom you loved. Thank you.

When Sean showed up to the Company I had been around for several years, and tried to help get him integrated into the unit. I quickly realized that Sean didn't need any help and that he had far more to teach me than I had to teach him. Sean and I for years talked regularly about all kinds of professisonal issues. I can't remember a single time that I knew more than he did on a given topic. Be it tactics, airborne operations, leadership, or other more specific SOF skills, Sean knew more than I did.

Sean talked to subordinates and superiors alike with the same candor and professionalism. Once I became a Team Sergeant I would regularly ask for Seans advice when I had a problem. When I had to help run a unit Jumpmaster course, I went through almost two months of getting ready along with all of the other instructors so that we had our shit together and were fully prepared to instruct others in JM tasks. When I ran into Sean and talked to him about something course related, he (off the cuff) knew more about it than me.

I immensely respect Sean as both a Soldier and a man. He is one of the better men I have known in both life and the Regiment. I am deeply saddened by his death and will miss his friendship. God speed buddy.

He sounds like the consummate Special Forces soldier. That being said, RIP and may God shine his light down upon you and your family.

RIP WO1 SEAN MULLEN

For the rest of the world, save for his friends (both here and back in the States) - and of course his family...his sacrifice somehow no longer rates even as below the fold, back page news.
A small blurb in a hometown paper. A mention of "US Soldier killed in Afghanistan" on the ticker under a well manicured anchorperson spewing meaningless minutes about some gay sports icon, Lindsay Lohan lunacy or Justin Bieber fashion trend.

This was a good man by all who knew him. A solid "dirty boots soldier" who did things the right way, the SF way.
If the Nation will no longer recognize it's true heroes then let us recognize, and honor, their memory.

Thank you for your service Sean. Rest well Brother.

Thank you for your service, your dedication and your sacrifice Warrant Officer Mullen. May God rest your soul and comfort your teammates, friends and family.
To God's mansions goes a true warrior.

Thank you also, Eagle5US, for your tribute. You are so right!

Fallen Del. Soldier, 39, Laid to Rest in Dover

http://www.wboc.com/story/22668375/f...-rest-in-dover

Mullen died Sunday, June 2, n Lashkar Gah, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device, officials said. He was assigned to the 2nd Batallion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), at Fort Campbell, Ky.

Mullen attended Caesar Rodney High School and Delaware Technical and Community College before joining the Maryland National Guard in 1993. He enlisted in the Army in 1995 and trained as a special forces medic before completing warrant officer school late last year. Mullen's classmates in warrant officer training selected him to receive a leadership award, his mother Miriam said.

Besides his parents, Mullen is survived by his widow, Nancy, whom he married in 2005. He also is survived by an older sister, Christina, and a niece and nephew.
