I just bought a pair of the Vibram Five Fingers and started running in them and it's feeling good. Start slow with just 1 mile runs at first as your calves will let you know you have muscles that are now working harder.
As they report, my sciatica and slight knee pain isn't felt during these short runs but only time will tell with longer runs (4-7 miles). Run times seem to have increased a little bit also.
The logic makes sense to me. No more heel pounding that distributes the force up along your spine. But they are funny looking. No arguing that.
