Travis K. Hunsberger, 24, of Fayetteville, died Friday, June 27, 2008, in Lamay, Afghanistan, after striking a pressure-plated improvised explosive device while on foot during combat reconnaissance patrol.

Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, in JFK Chapel on Fort Bragg, with Chaplain Scot McCosh, Pastor Paul Commons and Pastor D.L. Govan officiating. Burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Adcock Funeral Home in Spring Lake.

Travis enlisted in the U.S. Army four years ago and was on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. He was a Special Forces Operational Detachment-Alpha senior communications sergeant assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne). He volunteered for the Army in 2004 as a Special Forces candidate. In 2006, he earned the Green Beret.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal; Army Commendation Medal with “V” device; Purple Heart; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Parachutist Badge; and the Special Forces Tab.

Travis is survived by his wife, Hannah Hunsberger; parents, Steve and Ronda Hunsberger; brother, Kyle Hunsberger; sister, Kelsey Hunsberger; and grandparents, Kenneth and Ruth Bemiller, and Kelly and Deanie Hunsberger.

Memorials may be made to the Travis Hunsberger Memorial Fund at Fayetteville Bible Chapel, 414 Country Club Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28301.

Services entrusted to Adcock Funeral Home of Spring Lake.

I believe that SF is a 'calling' - not too different from the calling missionaries I know received. I knew instantly that it was for me, and that I would do all I could to achieve it. Most others I know in SF experienced something similar. If, as you say, you HAVE searched and read, and you do not KNOW if this is the path for you --- it is not....
