Chosen Soldier
A great book so far about a ex navy seal that is tagging along with 18 x-rays through the special forces pipeline.

"On Wings Of Eagles" by Ken Follet
What a story.
It describes the EDS/Iran scandal of 1979 and how Mr. Ross Perot rescued his staff from the Iranians.

FWIW - wasn't a scandal and HRP didn't rescue his staff - he paid the Bull and a few of his former SF employees to do it - big difference in my mind.

Julie Powell, Julie [and] Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously, ISBN-13: 9780316042512. When reading some of the green-eyed comments left by Ms. Powell's critics in the blogosphere, one remembers Orel Leonard Hershiser IV's reply to a critic in the fall of 1988. He snarled, "Grab a bat, kid."*
Craig Ferguson, American on Purpose: The Improbable Adventures of An Unlikely Patriot, ISBN-13: 9780061719547. He writes like he talks. MOO, Ferguson is the funniest comedian on television today. Like the late Richard Pryor, Ferguson understands that if you're going to make fun of others one should first look in the mirror, and then look in the mirror again.

IIRC, although HRP did not lead the rescue, he did authorize the mission and did personally go to Iran to visit his employees while the rescue execution unfolded. I did not think much of him as a Presidential candidate, but I think he exhibited courage in risking his personal safety and his corporate future.

A Novel
"The Plot Against America", by Philip Roth -
In short, Hitler wins the war in Europe, and ultimately occupies American soil. The Constitution is gone, America in now "German".
Im not a big reader of novels, but have been entertained by it's speculations. Perhaps Islam would be another scenario. The high lights of the book are the factual depictions of the lives of FDR, Charles Lindbergh, Walter Mitchell, Henry Ford, and Amelia Earhart.
Note to reader: The book is intended as a referance for readers interested in tracking where historical fact ends and historical imagining begins.

MOO, historical imagining begins the moment anyone sits down and tries to describe the past.
(This is the part of the conversation where social historians turn, glare at me , and sneer "Then why study history?" They can be such a grumpy lot. )
