Think of it as a 50k' tall antenna. It will increase the distance to the horizon from 3.8 miles at 6 feet, to 301 miles. It's a minute fraction of the cost of a satellite, or UAV with the same payload and altitude, it can be retrieved to maintain and upgrade the payload, and it doesn't require a pilot. It can be scaled up or down to carry just about any payload, and that payload can cover 284,631.5 square miles.
