you should have seen what passed for uniforms during ski or mountain training in Toelz...we started training more or less on the same sheet; ski boots with gaiters, field pants, OG shirts and a parka, if need be, and a watch cap...by the end of January, there were German Army bundhosen, Austrian sweaters and a fair number of civilian garments worn...of course, toward the end of the training, the VII Corps commander came to look at training and mused how there were so few soldiers at training and so many civilian skiing around with ALICE packs on their backs...
